Don't forget we have Gillies in the pipe too. If he has a big year in the AHL, next off season will be interesting wrt the goalies.

At least now we know that if it comes to it next off-season, Bishop would be interested in coming to Calgary.

^ Exactly. Maybe BT got exactly what he wanted from those discussions. He knows what Bishop is looking for.

Flames in a good position wrt goalies next year and flexibility with the expansion draft. Except they still don't have a goalie to expose right?

Some new information. Bishop tells Sportsnet that the Flames were on his No Trade List so he ultimately had the final say in if the trade would have gone through.

“It was up to me. They were on my no-trade[list] or whatever, so that kinda has to get worked out. It was one of those things where at the draft it could’ve happened,” Bishop told Sportsnet last week in Columbus. “Obviously, it’s not that close if it didn’t.”

Of all the teams to put on your no-trade for a given year, he picked one that was in the second round just a few months prior. Bizarre. Canadian factor is real.

What the hell was that?

"It was close, it could have happened but they were on my No-Trade list so it obviously wasnt that close so it didnt happen."

Thanks Ben. Thanks for that nugget of wisdom.

Anyone got Bishop's twitter handle? Now that we are obligated to hate him for having Calgary on his NTC, I have to tweet him hateful things daily for the next 2 years

Sounds like despite being on his no-trade list he was about to sign a 7 year deal with us.

Standings change year to year. Geography, climate, and family matter more.

He played in Tampa, a beautiful city with a great team. is it really a surprise a Canadian team who hasn't been that good for a few years is on his no trade list?

Well theres that, but theres also the minor matter that hes 29 years old and looking for one last big payday which I think hes unlikely going to land in Tampa.

I don't take stuff like that all that personally.

In a league with 22 American teams you have a 72% chance of playing in your home country. Not a big shock to see a native son wishing to stay home and putting all the Canadian teams on the list save for maybe Toronto and Montreal.

Just so glad the Flames didn't pull the trigger there.

I'd be so worried if the Flames Lucic'd themselves a goaltender.

This is pretty much what I was thinking as well.

We'd have had to give up assets to acquire him, he was setting up to go UFA, hes had 2 serious injuries in the past 2 years, hes 29 and he wanted a boat-load of money/retirement contract.

what might have been the price tag? 2nd + 3rd rounder for elliott including a resigning. Bishop would have cost more. If it was our 1st rounder, then that would have been tough to swallow.

I'm born and raised Calgarian. My number 1 NHL destination if I was a player would not be Calgary.

Bishop is not worth the 6th overall pick.

Probably the same picks for Elliot plus one plus either the FLA or DAL 2nd rounder

And that was also only for 1 year of Bishop. Hes a UFA after this season.
