Yeah...like a 34 year old veteran needs a wake up call, was obviously just looking for a reaction. Rene Bourque is done and it looks like the Avalanche are giving the Oilers a run for their money in the "worst run NHL franchise" award. Honestly they are a bad team and will be a bad team for a while if they keep making weird decisions like this and the one where they donated a second round pick to us for Reto Berra.

Of all the bodies that Sakic could have chosen though. If sticking with ex-flames wouldn't nystrom give you a tad more give-a-$h1t factor while filling a spot during training camp?

Taking a while to get to 5000

I see this ending just like the Glencross try out. Thanks for coming but you just don't have it anymore. Bourque has shown next to nothing in the many 2nd chances he's had in the league. If you can't make it work in Anaheim and can't get noticed in Columbus its time to hang em up.

And lest we forget, also couldn't cut it with the Habs either. Rene Bourque is done.

I don't see any harm in signing a guy to a PTO. Best case scenario, you pay him 1x1 and he plays the full year in the NHL. Worst case, he sucks and you cut him.
It is amusing though how many former Flames the Avs have signed.

Bourque was one of those guys that teased with "speed" and "potential" when the 'Hawks signed him as an FA...what he NEVER did in the Indian head Jersey, is learn to control his shot, improve his "hockey IQ", or put any effort into the back check, eventually failing to put in ANY effort in ANY facet of the game...

Why?
IMO, Iggy should never have been signed to his last contract with the Flames.

I always find it funny when people question the work ethic of people who make it to the NHL. Lazy people don't make the NHL.

And he hasn't figured that out until now? Not sure what happened to this guy, but whatever it is, it doesn't look like he's coming back from it.

Not sure that's true at all. Plus there's levels of lazy. I'd agree with you, the laziest people on earth, regardless of talent wouldn't make the NHL, because they'd likely be too lazy to get up for practice, maybe even too lazy to register.
But there's lots of levels in between, and lots of NHL players that don't work half as hard as others. Bourque, for at least the parts of being an NHL pro that us fans get to see is as lazy as they come. He's got crazy talent, if he had a work ethic like many of his peers, he'd likely have a much different career story and not be on a PTO right now.

Because the idea that Iginla was going to be handing off the torch to Bourque in 2009 after Bourque scored a hat trick in one game was so hysterical, nothing was going to be able to follow it in this thread.
I had forgotten about that little moment in CP history until his post and I had a legitimate lol when I read it.

It's the new misguided, often repeated narrative on CP that NHL caliber players that will obviously get contracts are only going to get league minimum/PTO's if they haven't signed one late in summer.
