He is a poor choice and I agree that Subban, Letang, Brodie or Giordano would be better for starters. I'm not there with Hamilton yet. I don't even have a big problem with him not being named to U23 team.
Little surprised at the negativity of so many of the posters. Previous Canada Cups were some of the best hockey ever played and as I recall, many of the players played their hardest. I know I cared as a fan. I'm willing to give this a chance and I hope to see the Flames participating having success.

Poor choice but pretty clear to see what they are trying to do here.
Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo
Vlasic- Burns
Muzzin - Doughty
Weber
Each pairing is the pairing from an NHL team now.

Pietrangelo was like "finally don't have to carry the pairing. I get to play with a solid Dman in Keith"
And then...

This is a poor choice on multiple levels. Considering this whole tournament is nothing more than a marketing tool and money grab, I'm surprised they wouldn't have chosen a guy like Subban who has fan appeal, is a better player and would help draw attention to hockey in Nashville. Im almost certain nobody wants to watch Bouwmeester, not even St Louis fans.

I don't believe it is at all homerish to suggest that Giordano and Brodie are both better than any of 3 of the LDs that have been selected.
Vlassic is in the same class. I don't think Muzzin is, and I am certain that Bouwmeester isn't.

A lot of people here too young to remember the Canada Cup. I agree it will be excellent hockey, and the players will take it seriously.
Still, I'm firmly in the Team North America camp now.

It's not a gimmick tournament. Maybe the NHL is doing a crappy job with all the gimmicks and the testing but if the players don't go to the Olympics, this is it. It's serious for Canada (Armstrong, Babcock and co..). Lose this tournament and it's a long 4 years.

I loved the Canada Cup so don't assume it is an age thing. In fact the reason I don't like this tourney is because of my love for the old Canada Cups.
For me this thing jumped the shark when they created a team that was a mix of US and Canada.
I want to see best on best - by country.
Not best on best - sorta.
It feels closer to an all star game to me than a best on best international tournament.

It was a joke when they took Muzzin over both of these guys, but now Bouwmeester?
Both of these guys would be the top 2 left handed defenceman on the team and they're staying home. Ridiculous.

The only thing that sucks is if Gaudreau and Monahan win the World Cup then they won't ever get the chance to defend it as they'll likely be playing against each other in the next World Cup. Kind of takes away from the importance when you are only part of the team once then will have to make another team 4 years later.

I'll travel to Canada(from Sweden) for the first time because of the World Cup. But what I'm really looking forward to is my first visit to Calgary. In the long run - who cares about the results in the WC except of Tortorella?

Should have been Gio. I suspect Brodie will get some love going forward.

Jay Bouwmeester is a great defenseman. A lot of blind hatred here in my opinion.
That said, I do agree that Giordano, Brodie, Subban, and Letang should be there ahead of him.

I wonder how many other guys go out with "injury". Glad Gio and Brodie aren't playing...

Both right-handed shots. Having left-handed guys play the left side in a short tournament is a defensible coaching choice, so I'm going to have to disagree that they should be there in place of Bouwmeester...
... because they should be there in place of Weber.

This tournament isn't turning into much more than a World Championship in September, with dumber teams.
