Yeah, that girl from Poland who got silver in the women's mountain bike this morning is a real loser. She's not bad looking though so I guess she could go into modeling eh polak?

Why are the goalies so useless in handball? I've watched a few games and it is quite rare for a goalie to make a save. They should give the goalies pads like in field hockey.

I can see how "totals only" may seem a little unfair, as it can make a bronze as good as a gold. I get the argument. But the "gold only" ranking perspective essentially eliminates every other medal. If the other colour medals don't matter, why even give them out? They should've just given out a trophy for first then, and tell 2nd and 3rd to hit the bricks. I just think the Olympics have already established deciding that silver and bronze matter by giving them out in the first place, so they have to count for something.
Frankly both ways in question of counting it is a flawed system, so what about a hybrid? Something like "total points", where gold=3, silver=2, bronze=1

That would be a good way to do it if there was an actual competition for top country. You could give out points for top 10's too.
Since there's no such competition, why bother?

Oh I know, i just mean theoretically going forward. I've always done it by total medals. Really hoping we can get one more somewhere to break the non-boycott Canadian record

The Chinese guy is a machine. Misses the dive and scores 40-something. He follows that up with two straight dives of 102.

Still a good haul and great Olympics and lots of awesome athletes and stories... but there's winning and there's losing.
(cue freak out)

The Olympics rank it by golds won with the silver and bronze as tie breakers. I don't see why there is such opposition to this system in Canada as using it, we won the Winter Games in Vancouver.

It could be one of those days - Brazil hits the woodwork and it goes in, Germany has hit the woodwork twice and the ball has stayed out.

I like this system too, and was curious about how it would re-rank the order. Here are the top 20 countries...
Rank Country Gold x3 Silver x2 Bronze x1 Total
1 United States 120 72 34 226
2 Great Britain 78 44 15 137
3 China 69 36 26 131
4 Russia 42 32 19 93
5 Germany 48 18 14 80
6 France 27 34 14 75
7 Japan 36 16 21 73
8 Australia 24 22 10 56
9 Italy 24 22 7 53
10 South Korea 27 6 8 41
11 Netherlands 24 12 4 40
12 New Zealand 12 18 4 34
13 Hungary 24 6 4 34
14 Canada 12 6 15 33
15 Brazil 15 12 5 32
16 Kazakhstan 9 10 9 28
17 Spain 18 6 4 28
18 Kenya 15 10 0 25
19 Cuba 15 4 4 23
20 Denmark 3 12 7 22
Sorry for the messy formatting. Is there no way to keep nice columns?

Handball! The Russian women's jerseys are throwback...shadow block font? Haven't seen that font since the mid 90's on my soccer jerseys.
Why is Canada no good at Handball?
