No goalie equipment changes this year? UPD: new pants mandatory as of Feb 4

I loathe seeing clips of those old goaltenders. Sure it was athletic. It was also dumb.

They were mismanaged with little to no coaching and no thought to basic positioning. Some of the saves looked great because of it. In my mind, there were decades of exceptional athletes whose talents were wasted because the position was so misunderstood and ignored. It took until the early/mid 90's until we began to see a fundamental shift in philosophy... which is crazy to me.

I hope we never see the likes of Vernon/Ranford/Fuhr ever again much the same way we never see the likes of JS Giguere/Garth Snow/Chris Osgood with their BS oversized gear.

Well with the current rash of 7-6, 5-2 and 8-7 games, what's there to fix? LOL

There needs to be a happy medium between safety & protection and being a giant blob in front of the net. Goalies need to do their jobs, which is to stop the puck from going in, but they don't need to look like a lacrosse goalie while doing it.

All goalies must switch to new pants today. Any violation results in a 2-game suspension, $25k fine to team, $1k fine to equipment manager

I like the changes to the pants but the lack of inner and outer thigh protection seems crazy to me
