I second San Diego. I did a solo trip for 6 days and I was well under 1500 bucks. All kinds of stuff to do/see and also was very relaxing to just lay on the beach. San Diego was actually cheaper than most places I looked.

If anyone does something like San Diego or LA, I recommend driving over to Joshua Tree National Park and staying there for a couple of days. I did that solo a few years ago, and there was nothing quite like waking up and going for an early morning hike in that place. That park is pretty magical.

Every major city in the world has a public transit system. Use it.

Uber is cheap as hell in the US. Maybe 1/3 the cost of a taxi. I've been using that every where lately. This weekend I took it from the Seattle airport downtown and it was $25.72. That's a $60 cab ride normally.

A couple week ago I was in Vegas, same thing. Went from the strip to Fremont for 14 bucks (usually 30+) and went from the strip to the hotel for 7 bucks (usually 20).
