Bouma is very popular amongst Oiler aficionados. They've been after a player of his ilk for a while. He's chased Yak out of the rink in more than one game at Northlands. A big hit early or a big missed hit and Yak is looking over his shoulder all game and disappears.

He doesn't have to go, but, and I hate to say this, he's replaceable by guys like Ferland and even Hathaway.

Yaks makes 300k more a year and has much more offensive upside.
I wonder though what Rikard Rakells comparable contract would be though. Would Hertl be the closest? 3m a year? If the Ducks were to move Rakell in a package that included Bouma I'd prefer that route.

So would the flames GM. I can't imagine anybody wanting Stajan right now. Maybe at 50% off.
I dn't care if they trade Bouma, but it better not be so they can give $ 4 million to Martin.

Think alot of people would, but I think there are some obvious reasons beyond the praise about being a good leader and mentor that management says which should tell you why he hasn't been moved.
It's not so easy to move the guys we want to (Stajan, Raymond and 1 or 2 others) because nobody else freaking wants them and the only way they can likely be traded is if the trade is completely lopsided, totally favouring the opposing team while severely hurting the Flames.
If you look at what happened to Raymond earlier today, you should get a very accurate gauge of what Stajan is also worth to other teams right now. In other words, yeah, zero to negative value.

The Flames would probably have to include a 1st to move Stajan at this point. Completely serious.
As for Bouma, it would suck to see him go, but the Flames do have other players that can replace him without issue.

I'd be interested in that if the Flames strike out in UFA.

But then who's going to replace Ferland? And I don't think Ferland is as consistent as Bouma is to replace him.
Hathaway I agree would be a nice replacement if that's the route they're going to go. Really like his game.

I'd look at moving Ferland too. Completely re-vamp the bottom 6. About the only guy the Flames cannot move like mentioned above is Stajan.
I'm not of the belief like some others that Ferland is as good as his Van series showed.

Why should we worry about replacing Ferland right now?

No need to wonder why.
Top half of the roster: Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Backlund, Frolik, Giordano, Brodie, Hamiltion, Jokipaka, Elliot
Bottom half of the roster: Ferland, Stajan, Colborne, Bollig, Bouma, Smid, Engelland, Wideman, Ortio
The crazy thing is using last years salary the top half only makes around 5-million more then the bottom. Our bottom half is terrible.

I give Ferland another year as I feel it is too early to give up on him.
When we talk about the bottom 6 does that include Backlund and Frolik? Or is Bennett the third line C next year?

Bennett is the 3rd line center next season. Backlunds done all he can to justify his #2 center status.
Look at RW, Frolik is the defacto #2 RW. So no that doesn't include him.
Obviously I wouldn't "revamp" Bennett, but he does need better support players for his development. Hence where Chiasson comes in.
