I just got out of my time machine and every player they drafted becomes a Hall of Famer so I'll give it a B-.

I've watched many of these guys in person, and I can say this is easily an A- or an A. Stellar draft.

Very happy with Tkachuk and the Elliott trade.

I don't claim to know too much about anyone drafted after 60 but I liked the focus on skill and hockey IQ.

I don't want to put an official rating down but I would call the draft a Win for Calgary.

Since its hard for us as fans who haven't seen most of the guys why don't we defer to someone who has seen a lot of these guys

http://www.tsn.ca/craig-s-list-matth...tters-1.503562

According to Craig Button we got the
5th best player - Matthew Tkachuk
28th best player - Dillon Dube
33rd best player - Matthew Phillips
37th best player - Mitchell Mattson
38th best player - Adam Fox
39th best player - Tyler Parsons
89th best player - Linus Lindstrom

I'd say Craig Button would say we had a very successful draft. We got several guys he had ranked as high 2nd rounders.

Great draft.

Treliving continues to fill in the gaps on this team.

Good prospect depth now, lots of speed, lots of skill, some good size and high level of hockey IQ.

He has addressed the major issue with respect to goaltending.

Now Treliving has two main priorities - get Monahan and Gaudreau signed and address the top line right wing spot. Personally I would be thrilled if we could get David Backes for this spot - he has the experience, the leadership and the grit.

If Treliving can do that, then bring on the 2016/17 NHL season!

Seems like a 9/10 for me... Elliot is nice, but missing out on DeBrincat hurts. Clearly the Flames had no issue going for small, skilled players, so in terms of execution of the chosen philosophy we lost out a bit there.

He also had Dube ranked 28th.

That's 6 players we picked that's in his top 40.

I like it. Drafted for skill, and BPA. Instead of size and current needs. I like their PROCESS, and really that's all I can judge at this point.

I'm convinced now that we would have taken Keller had the top 5 gone "normal". We'll never know though.

Yeah I really wanted him too. Gotta let that go though.

He is in a division rival's org now so we gotta think of him as an undersized, one-dimensional Youngblood who'll never make it because of all of his obvious flaws.

Suck it Coyotes

It certainly looks like Craig may be conversing with Todd a lot for his rankings. Fantastic draft IMO simply based on filling to massive organizational needs on the first day. Also it looks like the philosophy was similar to Feaster's first draft with the team and picked skill and hockey sense over measurables.

tough to judge the NHL compared to say the NFL, where kids are 20-21...

that said, getting Tkachuk was a pleasant surprise, though i really agree that i think Calgary would have picked Keller if the draft went how people had speculated it would.

Elliot was a great pick up with a 2nd though i wish we had been able to keep our second and gave them one of our later 2nds...

otherwise, i had hoped we'd have picked up a Bitten or Pu with one of the seconds instead of the goalie... otherwise, don't know enough about those later picks to make an assessment.

i do think its interesting that Calgary didn't change philosophy and specifically pick size... very happy about that

Yeah, try and convince me that Craig Button does not get his draft information from his brother Tod.

The Flames draft is confusing. They preach one thing, and do another. Tells me that management is full of ####. They don't give a damn about size or black and blue hockey, they have another goal in mind. Sadly, they play in a black and blue division/conference and that is all that matters. So their grade will be based on the drafts of their divisional and conference rivals, not just on their own selections. System efficacy and system discipline appears to be an important thing to acknowledge. Are teams stocking their systems with players that are likely to have success in the system or set up for failure. To me, that will be what defines the grade for this draft. That will take a few days to go through and boil over.

Grade: Incomplete, and I've got two weeks to submit the final grades.

^Odd rant.
They certainly picked some guys with size and jam to their game. But they didn't get tunnel vision on that element.

Just yesterday made it a good draft. At least we did not leave our strategy in the lobby. I had to go there. Imagine they left the players list. That would have been awesome
