We need a new, fresh design for the primaries. Badly.

Hopefully we follow in the steps of Dallas and Florida and adopt a sleek and uncluttered design.

We've been wearing those awful things since '08 now..... Just like the arena, change is way overdue..

Side note - it especially sucks when you already have potentially the best jerseys in the league at your disposal and you're not using them...

I would drop Edmonton because they're always no good. But I'd move up Pittsburgh, not sure why it matters that their nice jerseys aren't official yet, San Jose, Minny, Washington, Buffalo, Florida.

Puts us ahead of only Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, LA, Yotes, Ducks, Canes, Avs, BJs and Sens. And of those Jets, Oilers, Sens, Yotes, Avs are all not awful.

Make it less busy. Simplicity simplicity simplicity.

Original pyjamas were Atlanta Flames with an updated logo. Those evoke a nostalgic response and are fine as a tertiary uni.

Keep the logo. Don't mess with the flaming C. Nice clean lines.

Flaming Snothorse = BAD. Wordmark = BAD. Downturned CF logo to look like mountains = BAD. National and Provincial flag patches = BAD.

Ditch the black and work with the red/gold/white palette.

For additional clarity, the Arizona Coyotes use the third shade in the red region namely "Brick Red." The Colorado Avalanche use the final shade with "Burgundy".
For some reason I thought Washington used the same colour. Guess I'm falling for the same illusion that makes people think the flames red is orangey on the retros.

According to this site (not sure how accurate it is) Winnipeg is the only other team that uses "Iron Range red", but only in the crest and shoulder logos.

Pittsburgh: I was conflicted between which jersey to rank. Decided that I would stick with every teams actual home jerseys. Not everyone knows they are switching full time to Black/Yellow and it's not uncommon for teams to wear their alternates in the playoffs (Sharks used to. Ducks used to. Washington used to. Wild does. etc.)

Edmonton: I'm a sucker for retro jerseys. They always get my vote, even if I hate the team.

San Jose: I can't stand their jersey without the waist stripe. They somehow made a 2007 Reebok Edge jersey look even more like a 2007 Reebok Edge jersey.

Minnesota: I love their green alternate and road jersey, never liked the home jersey. Something about that shade of red with green just doesn't look right to me. Too Christmasy

Buffalo: I would have ahead of the Flames if they didn't have those hideous grey 2007 esque apron strings. Took a classic jersey and added a tacky feature to it. Ruined

Washington: Not the worst jersey in the league, but they are just a little too plain for me. Minimal waist stripe, boring word mark logo (Their shoulder patch should be the primary), pinstripes.

Florida: I was flip flopping between having them ahead of us or not. I left them below us in case their jerseys being so new was clouding my judgement. I need to let them digest for another week. I do think they are fantastic ATM

Avalanche: Apron strings. No waist stripes of any sort. Worst jersey in the league

Senators: Never liked their current logo. Jersey is the exact same template as the Penguins official home jersey. No waist stripes of any sort.

I did my list a few times and I had the Flames between 15th. and 19th at different times (Depending which Penguins jersey I was ranking and how I felt about Florida). I think we're on the same level as the Jets, Ducks, Coyotes and Hurricanes. Ok, but not great

Ones that I think are clearly better than the Flames current jerseys

Pacific
Everyone except Vancouver and Arizona

Central
Everyone except Colorado

Metro
Everyone except Washington, Carolina, Columbus

Atlantic
Everyone except Tampa, Ottawa.

A total of 9 teams with severely mediocre jerseys. If Columbus went with their 3rd all the time and made a road version of it, that would be better than ours as well.

Calgary needs a re-tooling in the worst way.

The only thing keeping the jersey from a solid bottom 5 ranking is the flaming C. One of the best logos in sports should be on a better designed jersey.

Only threads on my list that are worse: Carolina, Ottawa, Minnesota.

You're being generous Caged Great. For me the following teams have better jerseys.

Pacific
Every team except Anaheim

Central
Every team except Colorado

Metropolitan
Every team except Pittsburgh (probably will be fixed next season)

Atlantic
Every team except Ottawa

So solidly in the bottom 5 for the Flames

I quite like all of Pittsburgh's jerseys, even the old robo-penguin ones.

Personally, I have the Flames at 2nd-worst in the league, ahead of Colorado.

The color scheme is perfect but the piping and vertical stripes on the sides look terrible. Not sure why the team's feel they need to over style the jerseys. The jerseys that stand the test of time are the simplest.

The concept of the 3rd with a real crest would be the best. Like what they did with the ugly horsehead

And Chicago. I knew the Flames red was always the same shade, but was surprised that it was the same around the league. Held my Flames jersey against my Chicago jersey, and sure enough, exact same red.

Neat fact. Thanks for pointing that out!

Change 1989 to 2004 and that's pretty much my feelings on the black C. Yeah I know the uniform already underwent a change since then, but it still clearly used the black C 2004 jersey as it's template.

The black C era had its time in the sun (13 years now), there was even a period when I loved that uniform and would've ranked it as one of the better kits in the league. But its starting to feel fairly dated itself at this point. Add in the fact that at present, both bright colours and the retro look are very fashionable, and I think it's time to get back to red & yellow. Keep a black C option as a third though.

D'oh! I can't believe I forgot Chicago.

Before Reebok narrowed the colour palette there were actually three shades simply referred to as "red". The "red" used by Montreal was the darkest followed by the shade used by Columbus/Edmonton with the lightest being used by the remainder of teams who used red in the NHL.

I don't have a problem with the Flames current home jersey, but it also isn't my favourite. That being said I absolutely hate the away jersey we have. Too much going on and it's just kinda barf. I've honestly never seen anyone buy a Flames away jersey if the homes weren't sold out.

Be like Pittsburgh and go back to your retro roots Calgary!
