Yeah, I don't think people realize the purpose of this new shopping area. It was very strategic and should flourish. They're not competing with the inner NE/SE. They went for three very specific shoppers and nailed the spot, imo.

1. Chestemere (5 mins away, and whose residents regularly travel to Calgary to shop)

2. East side of the NE/SE (Sure, we know you guys have Costco and Walmart pretty close, but hey if you're on the outskirts, just hop over Stoney instead of dealing with the insanity of shopping in the NE on the weekend).

3. People travelling North/South on Stoney ("Hey, Walmart/Costco, I needed X, may as well stop in quick on the way home instead of making a special trip out of my way").

I lived somewhat near their until about a month ago, and this complex will be awesome. Even if it was a bit further it saves you from having to venture into the mess that is navigating the NE. Would have killed to have a Costco there when I was in the area

Looking at the plans, traffics going to be terrible with only one entrance to the entire plaza.

Yep, this part is undeniable, it's shaping up for 130th (McKenzie Towne) style traffic woes. I foresee traffic backed up over top of Stoney Trail on east bound 17th to turn left into the complex once the Costco and theatre open up.

At least Chestemere residents will have an easier in coming in westbound with no light, but everyone will be screwed coming out with everything leading to one small road out, immediately hitting a 3 way light.

I can't remember the exact set up leaving, but I'm pretty sure people heading back into Calgary will be screwed by the back up of Chestemere residents leaving via the left turning light, as I don't think the right turning lane is open all the way back. Someone can correct me if they know better.

There's 2 ways in. Can enter from the North too. From 16th, down 100th, over to 84th then south. Looks like there's something else potentially going to be developed further east and north too so expect to seem improvements on 84th and 100th streets in the next decade

Easthills should relieve some of that pressure I'd guess. as well as the glenmore one.

I can't confirm this but I heard through a very reliable source that they're building a Costco gas station in the deep SE. I don't think they ever build them standalone so.....

It's possible that the person who told me got confused with this one but that would surprise me.

I can only hope Costco gets in on the Tsuu Tina's plans for a tonne of retail on the SW ring road near the Grey Eagle.

For now, its either very off-peak times @ Deerfoot Meadows, or semi-off times at Cross Iron. Anything else is pure chaos.

That intersection @ Deerfoot Meadows was not designed to handle 12,000 cars.

Hey now, let's keep these things on the down low.

Totally not true. Don't anyone go there. Ever. Busiest Costco in North America. Avoid.

It's got nothing on the Costco on Heritage. I live 5 minutes away, but will gladly drive to Okotoks just to avoid the parking lot.

I hope this happens soon.

It's right beside where I store my boat/trailer, and would save me from having to go to the Deerfoot Meadows one.

No that is definitely not worth the drive. Its super far, and really its almost in High River, not really Okotoks. You definitely don't want to waste all that time and gas driving all the way there.

I'd like to think this isn't as much of a pipe dream as it would seem. If Vancouver can have one next to BC Place / Rogers with a Parkade - we should be able too....

That's incredible when you think about all the markets they operate out of:

Well, it's worth it for me. I drove past the Costco south on Friday, and just the line up on Heritage to turn into the parking lot was like 300 meters. That was around 2:30pm.

For some of us that drive can be done in a little over 20 minutes, and it's absolutely worth it for the peace of mind. Okotoks has parking spaces, minimal line ups, and isn't full of a-holes clogging up the aisles.

I can't speak to the Okotoks location bu I definately can say that I found the Cross Iron location to be missing a few items from the larger Heritage location. These "sattelite" locations seem to cover the basics, but if you really want the full awesomeness of Costco, you really have to head to the Heritage location. (I find Beacon to be somewhere in between)

Yeah, I don't use green text. And while it might be awesome today it won't be if people tell everyone how convenient and time-saving it is.
