Another thing about Tallon that can't be stressed enough is that Ekblad is a Panther in spite of Tallon as that guy worked his butt off trying to trade that pick for immediate help.
That's unfair speculation, as we don't know what he would have traded him for...for all we know, he was holding out for a return that would have been even better for the franchise.

It's totally unfair to suggest he would have made a mistake...bottom line is, he didn't

The problem is that Ekblad was far better for the franchise than any single short sighted return of players. It wasn't that he was fielding offers, the guy was actively campaigning more than any GM in recent history to try and trade out of the first overall pick. If you go back to the threads at the time we were making fun of how ridiculous he was trying to drum up interest. It's no different than Feaster being very lucky that the Avalanche matched the offer for ROR. Still doesn't change the fact that they the Flames have Monahan and the Panthers have Ekblad in spite of Feaster and Tallon. Bad GM's get lucky at times.

Tallon did the same thing with the Toews pick. In fact Toews' draft jersey had his name Velcro-ed on, as if they didn't expect to use that pick even though they were picking 3rd.

I recall someone on 960 back in 2014 saying that Tallon was shopping that pick extremely hard, even to the point Tallon had worked out a deal to send that pick to the Oilers for Pronger, but backed out.
