Regular dekes are on the "Y" button as usual. I don't know if EA has ever gone for a simulation, their goal has always been to create a fun video game for hockey fans, this year they succeeded.
2k6 will definetely be more realistic (Bolded so JayP doesn't ignore this comment), and it'd be stupid for any hockey fan to not buy it.. the price is right and i'm sure the game is good. But I don't personally care how "realistic" NHL 06 is.. it's fataing fun and that's all that matters.
JayP, you've been quite the fanboy, 2 years running, congrats. See you at 2khockey.net bro.

Fanboy - haha
Just because I prefer 2k's product means I'm a fanboy?
EA puts out crap every year IMO - why is that so hard to believe? When I play EA games it doesn't even feel like I'm playing. Sure the goals might look pretty and nice, but I don't even feel like I scored them.
It's a lot easier to make a realistic game arcadish than it is to make an arcade realistic. I got the best of both worlds with 2k6.

The thing is you dont need to use them if you think it's unrealistic. I havent used the deke button in quite a few years.

There's a difference between being a fan and a fanboy. A fan is someone who likes something but is willing to give something else similar a fair chance like I would if I had a console or if the 2K series were ported to PC. A fanboy is someone who thinks everything or almost everything about the thing they like is great and everything about the competition sucks.
You've always praised up the 2K series months before even playing it and called down EA months before you try the demo or game because of a couple early build vidoes you see that are set to Easy with the sliders jacked up to show scoring. I think people labeling you a fanboy isnt too far from the truth.

Sorry about the quote build-up, I didn't know until now that that's frowned upon (not sure why because sometimes it helps for people to be able to read an entire convo between two people without having to scroll all the way up and look for pieces of it individually)
@JayP: I think maybe you misunderstood me. When I was talking about my own play, I meant that I myself and other people in the league actually pull off those moves during games, not just by ourselves when we're alone practicing. Thus, I believe without a doubt that most NHL players would be capable of pulling them off in a game as well. Sure you don't see it all the time, but my point was if you use the deke-stick in moderation then I think it's a good part of the game, that's all.
Either way, you don't *have* to use it, so I don't see that as being any sort of a drawback or negative to the game, because like I mentioned the CPU hardly does any of those moves against me anyway.

I like the EA series. Yes some releases have frustrated me, but it is hockey. Since the other series came out I have been relatively happy with EA. 2005 I think is their worst effort, yet I've still been able to get some satisfaction out of it. I'll probably rent both of them this year and decide from there, but likely I'll stick with EA since I've got every edition since 94.
In regards to the dekes. So what? I rarely see the CPU use those moves and I never use them myself. Just because they include a funtion to appeal to others doesn't mean that somebody else should swear off the game because of said funtion, especially when they could easily not use it.

Exactly. I never use the super dekes or even any other "cheap" ways of scoring goals.

I was at EB Southcentre today to pick up my pre-ordered copy of 06, but they did not have theirs in yet. Said for sure they'd have it by 5:00.

2K6 can't get anymore realistic than this comment about Cole & Neale's play by play:
Not to mention that they rarely have anything especially insightful to say, and periodically they'll get things wrong on the play-by-play.
Bet they get all the Laff games correct though!
