No. The Blues have struggled to get past the Hawks. Now that they have managed that, I think they will go all the way.

I'm still hoping for that draft pick, though.

I think blues in 5 or 6.

I think the blues are just going to punish the forwards and D with hits.

If Seguin was heathy I would feel better about the Stars chances but the Blues have a major edge in net and I feel they are top to bottom the better team. Blues in 6.

This was on the 22nd.

Tyler Seguin just walked out of AAC with not a heavy, but certainly noticeable limp. A band of tape wrapped around his right upper calf.
Another writer goes on to surmise the calf injury is an off shoot from his achilles injury and will typically take 1 to 6 weeks.

Am I the only one who absolutely hates the current playoff format? The Dallas Stars were the best team in the West. If the Preds knock off the Ducks they should be playing the Stars. If The Ducks win the Stars should get the Sharks. They were the best team in the West, they should always get the lowest seed. Just go back to the way it was, 1-8, 2-7, ect...

You aren't the only one but it seems like the people who hate it REALLY hate it. I was fine with the old format, and I'm fine with the new one. They have different goals. The purpose of the old format was to try, the extent possible, to save the best matchup for the conference finals; barring upsets you should have the best teams lasting longer. It's like tennis seeding, basically; the goal is the have the best four players in the semis.

This format has a different goal, which is to try to foster in-division rivalries and have the best team (read: sole survivor) from division A play the best team from division B for the conference championship. That does, in fact, lead to rivalries; you're likely to see a bunch of Kings / Ducks / Sharks playoff series, and a bunch of Hawks / Blues series, which builds storylines. It's a viable goal.

The problem is that it can become monotonous, because it's in many cases the same series year after year, which is where the wild cards come in to shake things up a bit. People seem to get confused about this, but the team in the wild card spot, for playoff purposes, isn't really in a "division" anymore; they're a wild card team. That's just how a wild card format works. It has its benefits and drawbacks, so you might happen to prefer one format over another, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it.

Your issue, though, misunderstands the current setup: it's no longer a conference based playoffs. It's now a division based playoffs. The Stars being the best team in the conference has no relevance until the first two rounds, which are the divisional rounds, are over. All that matters is they're the best team in their division.

I like the current format. Lock in the seeds and let the playoffs run. Let a #6 or #7 placed team have a shot at making a run instead of facing juggernaut after juggernaut.

If you want to tilt the scales towards the top seeds then cut the playoffs to 8 teams instead of 16. Re-ranking after every series has essentially the same effect anyways.

I think these two teams will beat the crap out of each other this series.

I don't like the 1 v 8, 2 v 7 etc if you are going to have things like loser points and 3 point games.

If you are going to go back to that I would like to see straight wins or losses. Otherwise you get things like NYI getting home ice over TB with less wins.

Series will depend on Elliot. If he is not on top of his game Dallas will just out score St Louis.

If Dallas can get 3 regulation goals a game I think they will win.

I like the current format but it could get stale if it's the same teams every year.

I don't think that will happen though. In two years I could see a 50% or more mix up in teams.

I think this format will get stale real quick. People will get tired of seeing the best teams knocked out year after year in the 1st or 2nd round. And viewers will get tired of seeing the same boring matchups year after year in the playoffs.

Now hopefully the wildcard prevents that a bit and there is enough parity that we don't see the same first round match ups every year. However if certain divisions stay the same for 4 or 5 years it could incredibly boring to see the same teams play year after year. I know people think it makes for better rivalries but it also can lead to burnout.

Ask any NHL fan how the 8 game divisional schedule worked out for the NHL. Sometimes there can be too much of a good thing. It doesn't breed contempt, it breeds boredom.

Elliot didn't look all that great against the Hawks. Once he got scored on it seemed like that was it for confidence.

What's boring about St. Louis vs Chicago in any sports arena? Just a classic rivalry of cities and in the case of the current NHL, two damn good hockey teams. That was an outstanding series, sign me up for another round next year.

Same with LA vs San Jose, LA vs Anaheim, Calgary vs Vancouver or Calgary vs Edmonton. Hell even Vancouver vs any of LA, San Jose, or Edmonton.

Pittsburgh vs Philly, NYR vs NYI, Montreal vs Toronto, etc.

It doesn't have to be the same series year after year but the potential for absolute classics is off the charts. Love the format.

Those who think it gets stale to see the same teams in the playoffs every year are obviously to young to remember the Smythe division in the 80s.

I'm rooting for the Stars to win so we get that 1st rounder. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit conflicted. I'm not really a Stars fan but I genuinely enjoy the Blues. They are a big, physical, fast skilled team who rebuilt the right way. No shortcuts. Ultimately, the one team in the league I hope the Flames can become like are the Blues.

Should be a good series. I know it might seem the Stars have the upper hand since the Blues took 7 games to beat the Hawks. But that was the defending Stanley Cup champs and nobody was going to have an easy time facing them. The Wild weren't exactly cup material.

IMO the Blues will come out on top in 6. But if the Stars get Seguin back and he lights things up, they will have the upper hand. Kind of hard to call this one, but I'm going with St. Louis

Blues open as a slight favorite over Dallas. Gotta think that's because of public perception: Blues defeat the mighty Hawks while Dallas struggled against the lowly Wild.
