I just realized after reading this that I probably haven't gone for a full physical since I was in high school. I'm 33..
I recall inquiring about getting one about 3 years ago when I was living in St. Albert, my doctor put up a bit of a stink about it. Apparently they don't like how long it takes, eats into their schedule.

Two years ago my wife and I probably paid two months of child support for our Dentist. Thankfully we have good coverage thru our work benefits.
It feels like the better your coverage the more work you need.

I've been meaning to find a family doctor for about 10 years now. Can't seem to get around too it. I'm pretty good about keeping up with the dentist and the optometrist but can't seem to get around to the finding an regular doctor, let alone getting a physical

Hmm, never thought of that. My doctor's actually pretty good at reminding me, although I can only book it like 3 to 4 months in advance. To save myself the hassle and forgetting to book, I usually just book it a year in advance right after my checkup.

I stopped going to the Dentist for about 4 or 5 years. Biggest reason was they were really pushing to do unnecessary work and it was really pissing me off. I had perfect teeth until the time I stopped going.
Wife convinced me to go back, and the amount of work I had to do after that was unreal (though I only had to have one of my widsom teeth removed despite the prior ass clown insisting I needed all 4 our for no good reason at all which was my largest point of contention). Everything is good now, but I would never recommend stopping to go for the dentist. I went from having essentially perfect teeth to having to get 8 cavities filled and a bunch of work on top of that in a matter of 4-5 years and I am someone who brushed regularly (2 times a day at a minimum).

You are blaming the dentist for your 8 cavities?

Where do you see that I'm blaming the dentist for anything? I said I stopped going for 4-5 years and that was the end result when I didn't have a cavity in my life prior to that point. Had I been getting regular maintenance I don't think that would have happened.
I said I stopped going because my previous dentist was an up-selling ######bag. I regret simply just not going to another dentist. Skipping the dentist when you have coverage makes no sense. You'll end up spending hours up hours in an office later like I did.

Thanks for clarifying - at first I thought you were saying the dentist was inventing problems to fix.

If cost is an issue you may want to consider going to a dentist in another province. Alberta dental rates are the one of the highest in North America and some insurers refused to cover increases for 2016. http://calgaryherald.com/news/politi...crease-in-2016

According to a dental assistant ex of mine, you'd be amazed how many seemingly normal people who straight up don't brush their teeth. Or at least skip it for days at a time. I don't even know how that happens

When I was a kid I had TERRIBLE dental hygiene. Not only did I hate brushing my teeth but I also ate tons of candy and drank tons of pop but not a single issue. Never had a cavity as a kid (at least, I can't recall having one).
Fast forward to adulthood where I never eat candy or drink pop and where I actually brush my teeth like a normal human being and I can tell they're getting worse. Thanks to you "No Fluoride in my water" d-bags.

Weird. If I miss a brushing it feels gross and bugs me all day. The other day it was because my wife brought me coffee when I was getting out of bed Coffee and toothpaste do not mix well.

You're all just a reprehensible bunch of anti-dentites.

Once a year for me. The hygienist I go to tells me that's all I need based on what gets cleaned each time I go there. And I floss every weekday morning, which I'm sure helps.
Interesting thing about brushing teeth that I learned. If you have something "bad" for your teeth like candy, pop, etc. it's actually not a good idea to brush your teeth right away to "get it off". The reason is you've softened the enamel and now are brushing it away. It's better to wait at least an hour and then brush. At least that's what I was told by my dentist.

I think your dentist found himself a sucker.
