Why do you think some teams don't release information on some contracts? Is it because they think the fans don't care? It's because they don't want all that information released.
|
And that's a dumb fear, because all of the contract information is released on Twitter five seconds after the club releases the info. The fans are always in the know regardless of whether the team releases the specifics.
Anyhow, this is waaay off-topic.

Looks like there is some controversy on this one.
Looks like @MyRegularFace is saying that she has been shut down by the NHL and is not allowed to post gifs anymore. So Friedman may be wrong on this one.

The THW "writer" who initially "broke" the story by assuming that her decision to deactivate her account must have meant the league shut her down is now saying that she told him directly - but only after said "writer" was criticized for his speculation. Do you have an independent source claiming the same?

Wow, that's an interesting twist.
A sad day for hockey on Twitter. Gifs are a really great resource to enjoy the game.

No kidding they don't want it. But it gets out there. Isn't the point really that they might as well control it vs let others disseminate it?
As to myregface and gifs.....sounds like she asked for some donations for her work. Nhl prob didn't like that she was making money off it? Then offered her a job? Who knows but seems like they might as well embrace this

Jeez.. She's a student. She spends most nights posting for people, gets treated like crap online, and asks if people can help her out covering her bills since she does this instead of having a part time job.
I actually helped her on one of her Russian history assignments.
Poor girl.

Maybe it is the money thing. Sometimes this comes down to the legal precedent set by not doing anything, even if this isn't a fight the NHL wants to pursue.
What I mean is, what if the NHL were pressured by their legal counsel and their broadcast partners to shut her down because allowing someone to profit from reproduction of copyrighted material, even if only 2-15s at a time, could compromise their ability to pursue future copyright infringements?

Precisely.
In that case, why wouldn't she accept a job with the League? Unless they horribly low-balled her... she's been doing it for free - I think - until now.

To me this doesn't look like the NHL shut her down...yet. They maybe threatened her but with the way she words it I don't think anyone told her she couldn't post gifs anymore.

She literally said "the NHL is no longer going to let people post GIFs." How could that not be a clear indication that someone told her she couldn't post GIFs anymore?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the money thing that got her in trouble - IIRC she was actually already working for the Jets and Oilers and if she was asking for money from fans as well then that could get her in hot water from a copyright perspecitve.

No, he said he was told the NHL didn't change their stance. Would be nice if he would actually investigate something then report rather than just spew unsourced information.

Wait...So he talks to someone who has knowledge on the situation and reports what he finds out, and that isn't investigating?
I feel like you are "spewing" more un-sourced information than him.

So now he shouldn't be a trusted source because of a silly story about gif's on the internet? I will continue to take his word going forward.
