I've cancelled my TV and have 2 MXQ-Pro TV boxes on order. I'll have to check in here to see what apps do what when they arrive.

I've had an M8 Box for quite a while now. Got it for about $80 on amazon, can probably get for less on one of the Chinese sites like gearbest.

Had Kitkat on the box and Kodi was preinstalled. Was not overly impressed with Kodi, run in android. I found that that I was having quite a few audio sync issues and some stuttering video. Flashed OpenElec on the box as it was used primarily for Kodi and the difference has been night and day. No audio sync issues and very smooth playback (even in 1080p).

I did spoil myself and got an Nvidia Shield TV a could of weeks ago to replace a really old box that was running Kodi on our basement TV. I must say that I am very impressed. Kodi runs very very well in the android environment on this box. Super fast and smooth menu's and awesome playback. Netflix is also great on this box. Was previously using our Telus Optik box for Netflix, and the shield TV blows it away. Way faster navigation and loading. I also think that picture quality is better then on Optik box (not using 4K). Have also found that I use it for youtube quite a bit, and the voice search is pretty handy.

The Shield TV is pricey, but I'm very happy with it so far. If you are looking for something at a lower price point, I think you would be happy with one of the "android" boxes that you can flash OpenElec on.

I've also seen the Amazon Fire TV and its pretty nice. Its a tweaked version of Android, so installing Kodi takes a bit of work, but it runs well once setup. Its about $100 USD and is not available in Canada, so can be a pain to get one.

It is overkill like some say, but i'd rather pay the extra couple of bucks for a powerful box. It has a lot more capabilities then just running Kodi as well for gaming. Would definitely recommend it.

I had the Amazon FireTV Stick previously. It worked well, but had it's limitations, hence why I upgraded.

Here is a good blog of the good boxes on the market for this spring:

Agreed. I have the Shield as well, it's pretty awesome. Android TV, Chromecast built in, and gamestream. Pretty much everything I could ask for. Also 4k capable, although that doesn't matter much to me yet.

Getting the MXQ S805 on the recommendation of a friend-came with a small bluetooth keyboard. He said he loaded something called the "beast" on it that is a great Kodi Mod- I'm hoping to get sports on it mostly, looking forward to seeing what it can do.

Has anyone actually found a reliable sports app? Cause I've tried Pheonix and it was garbage for soccer. Assuming it'll also be garbage for Hockey.

If I can find a reliable sports add on then bye bye cable (well cable is going bye bye in 2 months anyways but still)

Vidtime is good. Two sports sections on it. Perch picks and VT sports. Hockey always very good too, through perch picks (but I just check it only - I have NHL.tv, so not sure it persists that good)
Try it. Pretty sure they have premier league too.
Castaway is good too, particularly for more obscure sports.

Sweet will do. I want to cancel cable ASAP and that's the only thing holding me back.

There use to be one called NHL On Demand that was fantastic. They had games going back years and had live games up pretty darn quick. Haven't used it in awhile but it was still running before this season started.

YES!! I finally figured out how to get it on my iPhone. It took me awhile, but finally did it. Now I just need to figure out how to add exodus and that stuff using the iPhone.

Figured it out. Just had to change the skin

This.
Added Kodi to both ipads, one step closer to cutting the cord.

Ok, downloaded kodi and Exodus into my laptop.
Couple of questions:

2-how can I get this to my TV? Sorry. I'm partially tech ######ed. I have a Chromecast but it doesn't look like I can do if from my laptop. Do I just need an HDMI cable?

Thanks!

This looks really promising.
Looking for cool addons also!

Default Correct

Just run an HDMI from your laptop as the second screen and it will work fine. I have been running this way and no issues.

is there a way to record a hockey game in HD and watch it later with kodi? sports is the only thing keeping my subscription to cable alive.

Is there any possible way to get France Netflix? My daughter loves this show called Mia and Me and right now season 2 is only available on the France Netflix.

I search the show and it comes up, but it doesn't play in most places I've checked so far

There are ways to record, HD homerun devices, etc but that way beyond me.
Plenty of archived hockey through several addons, including full games (usually home and away), condensed games (about 10-12 minutes in length total) and just highlights. These are up pretty fast.

I just tried Mia and Me (S1E01) with Exodus. Not a lot of sources, but it played no problem.

Season 1 is fine. We have that on regular Netflix, it's season 2 that won't work. My daughter will flip her lid if I can find it for her.

Oh, my daughter is obsessed with that show as well. I just canceled my unblockus subscription as I was never using it. I need less mia and me, not more.

I can't look at the show the same now ever since I saw her topless on Game of Thrones.
