Zero benefits? I assume he's contracting out to Rogers but that's pretty weak that a company as large and profitable as Rogers is this cheap goung the contract route with their broadcasters. My disdain for this company has grown to the point I feel a little ashamed to be doing business with them.

I would imagine that Rogers probably doesn't take too kindly to their stations and personalities linking towards a gofundme account where one of their employees/contractors is financially destitute inside of the space of a month because Rogers provides 'no health benefits' and he's paid on a 'per event basis.'

Doesn't look like a scam. Steinberg created the gofundme page.

I can understand asking for public assistance but its never been disclosed as to what he is suffering from. I know thats not my business, but if you're asking for money you would likely disclose the issue would you not?

1. From all that I have heard, the doctors are not exactly sure what the issue is.

2. Doesn't look like the family is asking for the money themselves. The gofundme page was started by Pat Steinberg (or at least some guy claiming to be Steinberg).

Thanks Sureloss. Its not my business at all, I was just also skeptical of the page but in light of the Steinberg news it seems legit.

I'm happy to support someone like Lou, but it's really interesting that the new way of supporting illness these days is to setup a crowd funding page. I lost a high school friend to cancer this year and there was a GoFundme setup within a day.

Wish that we did not have to rely on Kickstarter-type campaigns to treat those that get ill, and I suspect it will get worse in the coming years.

If he is really sick, wouldn't the treatment and work to find out what's wrong be covered by our universal health care coverage?
EDIT: I guess maybe it is about short-term disability since he doesn't have income coming in.

I want to donate. Do we know that this is legit? Maybe best to wait a day or two?

I'd wait until Steinberg confirms its real before donating anything. There was just an article in the local paper about a scam for something like this (http://www.lfpress.com/2016/04/07/wo...itish-columbia)

This is weird. No benefits at Rogers? Rogers employee starting a Gofundme? Is he an independent contractor? Is this a scam? Is Steinberg going to get fired for making his employer look bad?

Lots of other tv and radio people have donated, so I don't think its a scam.

How does Rogers not extend benefits to an on-air personality? Is this a common arrangement in broadcasting?

He's probably an independent contractor.
