That is not at all what I said

Well if only one of Lyon or Gillies became a Miller or Quick, I'd consider that a success

You can never have enough goalie prospects in the system. This would be a coup if BT could get him signed.

Insofar as Gillies has all sorts of potential, his professional resume consists of seven AHL games.

Can't hurt to add a Lyon to the den.

I'm going to guess that the Flames walk away from Poulin. Have Ortio as an NHL back-up, and then have Gillies and McDonald in the AHL. They would then need to find an NHL starter or otherwise tank commander.

If however they obtain Lyon, McDonald overages or ECHLs and Lyon and Gillies play in the AHL.

this is simply not true, eventually you run out of places for them to play

You're right. But there's plenty of room for Lyon.

Oh definitely, just hate hearing "you can never have too much" when any more than 6 goalies under contract that aren't of junior age and you have nowhere for them to play.

Lyon is actually a pretty good age for what we need. I'd rather have a 22 year old than another 18 year old this year. The age range should be spread out evenly. I believe only Gillies is between 20-24 at the moment.

With a 50 contract limit you can definitely have too many goalie prospects. I don't watch much college hockey so this is an honest question. Jankowski's stats are rationalized away by the pro Jankowski crowd because he plays in such a defense first system. Is that a little bit of a concern when looking at Gillies (who had great stats mind you). Could this guy be every bit as good a prospect as Gillies?

Let me one up that. If we could score Pribyl and Lyon, then get one of the 3 lottery picks, then move Wideman and a package of our second round picks to Dallas for Nichushkin... I can't even!!!

Wouldn't it be 5? Hiller, Ortio, Backstom, Lyon, Ramo.

You would think Calgary would be attractive. Sure Gillies is in the system but he's coming off surgery and what other team in the league has as much uncertainty in their goaltending situation? If he doesn't think he can beat out MacDonald then he doesn't have a lot of confidence in his abilities as that's not exactly a high bar. The team doesn't have an NHL goaltender signed for next season so if he can tear things up in the AHL he may have a spot in the NHL within a couple of years or less.

Do you always have to be such an asshat? Do you always have to take backhanded shots at our prospects? You are the Eric Francis of this board. Take shots at players without having any idea about them. I mean, when was the last time you saw either player play a game? Or did you cull all of your insights from comparing stats at hockeydb?

What has McDonald done that has caused you, and many posters on this board, to sour on this kid? Not posting Demko numbers? Need you be reminded he plays in the QMJHL, also known as the no defense allowed league? Or was it the disappointing Team Canada performance? Need I remind you the other goaltender got shellacked just as bad if not worse? You really need to understand the various contexts which exist in the development leagues and understand all playing situations are not created equal.

One word of caution on Lyons. He played in a very defense oriented system. His numbers are good, but like Demko, are inflated because of the quality shots he saw. I'd still roll the dice on him. Another bullet in the chamber.

Pretty salty, uncalled for post there. It's not a backhanded comment at all as McDonald isn't an elite goaltending prospect and my comment was more about Lyon's confidence in his game. As I said in my post the Flames don't have any NHL goaltenders signed for the 2016/17 season as of now. I can understand a guy like him looking at NHL depth and thinking he would be hard up against it to break into the NHL but if this guy doesn't think he can beat out a goaltending prospect then he doesn't think he's very good.

I never said McDonald was a bum but he's had a mediocre season to date so I apologize for not boarding the McDonald bandwagon and assuming the Flames should not consider bringing in any more goaltending prospects because MacDonald is a sure thing.

Also please provide evidence of me always taking backhanded at Flames prospects. Back up your talk with some proof of me calling all the Flames prospects bums. Someone is being an jerk here but it's not me.

From when he played with Omaha in the USHL:

Lyon's fight starts at 0:45 -- he's #34 in brown.
