My wish for these defectors is now and always has been for them to have Tim Erixon type careers. It might be a bad way to look at it but when a team drafts you and invests one of their only 7 picks per year on you something is owed to that club.

The leafs are likely going to sign him but they should face a penalty after they sign him, I'm guessing it's some type of tampering going on.

I wish the NHL could implement a supplemental draft like the NFL for these situations. If vesey goes for the loophole, he does not become a UFA, but goes to a draft where teams would submit what round pick they would forfeit to sign the player, they would lose that pick in the next draft and it would go to the team that is losing his rights.
The uncertainty of what team they would go to would be enough to sign with whichever team originally drafted them (unless it was the oilers).

David Poile tells Fox Sports the Preds own Vesey's rights until August 15,and will work until then to change his mind on becoming a FA.
I am guessing Vesey is just going to add Polie's number to his blocked list.

From someone who doesn't understand this rule it seems scummy, but if they rule exist, and it is the players right, hard to judge the player.
Fix the rule or don't judge the players.
Similar to GM's and offer sheets.

Can't they trade him? He could even still play a game just not playoffs. The best bet for the preds is to try and get something for him while they can instead of losing him for nothing. I guess it depends on which team he wants to sign with and if they want to make a deal. The leafs should just give a second for him now and let him play with the other wunder kids of the east.

Yeah I dont get it either. The fanaticism overrules their sense logic. They'll change their tune if they get laid off or fired for discrimination or something.
Setoguchi was one I sympathized with. He takes a hometown discount with San Jose and then they turn around and trade him.

I'll never Chan be my tune!
It just seems slimy to say you'll sign with a team if you know you won't. That's what happened here. It's a sense of entitlement of someone who hasn't really proved much of anything yet.

The rule is the rule, but Vesey shouldn't have misled the Predators like this:

I doubt this is Vesey. Completely on his advisor and whoever else has been giving him advice

Quite frankly I think Nashville is going to be a destination of choice these days.
Good team, stable, apparently an awesome fan base, great night life, decent place to live....
Vesey looks bad in this.

Maybe it's time for Poile to call in the big guns, and let Jesus take the wheel.

Well, in my day a man was only good as his word. Vesey sounds like he screwed the Preds over after giving his word.

If I was a young hockey player Nashville would be one of my first choices of a place to play. Great coach, good team, fantastic city.

That's the funny thing - Vesey is not being smart about hockey. There's no better team for him to play for than Nashville. They have the forwards ahead of him in the depth chart to play hard minutes, the defense and goaltending to let him make mistakes, and a pretty damn good coach. Not to mention a spot available to him in the top 9 and all the money he's missing out on.

you'd almost think his agent has been tipped off to what he'll get when he goes UFA...
it would not surprise me if there are whispers or charges of tampering in the upcoming days.

He must be dead set on playing for another organization as he turned down a great opportunity to start his career in a playoff drive and in the playoffs while getting one year closer to free agency in the process. Bad advice and/or tampering which I believe is something that's happening with some of these players unfortunately.
