per IIHF rules Pribyl can't sign until his team's season is over. Also not sure if he gets named to the World Championship team, but if he goes there he can't sign until the Czech's are out of that tournament.

It would be a 2 year ELC if he were to sign. He would be RFA after the ELC expired.

He has to decide between playing further down the depth chart but on good teams with a chance to go deep in the playoffs in the near future (Pens, Preds) or getting more ice time on a lesser team (Flames).

If he wants to win a Cup the Flames will be a tough sell but if he wants to potentially play on a team's top line and pad his stats Calgary is pretty appealing.

The downside of course is:

Pens 92 pts, in the playoffs 9 times out of 10 in the last decade
Preds 91 pts, in the playoffs 8 times out of 10 in the last decade
Flames 70 pts, in the playoffs once in the last 6 seasons...

Has to count for something. Players like winning.

Let's hope to hell that's not the case.

But you're right he might be one amazing shootout goal away from getting SchlemK.O'ed.

Treliving just needs to do what he failed to do last offseason and dump Widey.

I agree, but he's a UFA and the Flames are bogged down with over priced depth defensemen.

Hopefully BT can clean it up.

End of de-rail.

At the outset of their careers ice time matters a lot more to players than playoffs. Without ice time, they could have a short career. With ice time, they have a chance to put up good numbers, and good numbers = $$$.

I think Nakladal is an all around better defenseman personally.

I'm assuming that "get Schlemko'd" just means that Nakladal will probably end up signing somewhere else because there are no roster spots open, like what happened with Schlemko.

Nice to see he isn't going for the automatic walk on in Toronto. Picked 3 pretty good teams to decide from. Nashville is a good team that can win. If he truley believes he is a top 6 forward then playing with Crosby or Malkin is a no brainer.

With Calgary yes he could be a walk-on for RW, but as bad as flames were this year i still believe they are trending upwards. Also He either plays on Mony-Johnny line, Bennett line or Backlund line. Those are 3 pretty good centers to play with going forward.

What does this signing have to do with Nakladal and Schlemko? Who brought this up? One transaction has nothing to do with the other. Potentially signing Pribyl won't have any barring on bringing back Nakladal, nor does one have to be done before the other.

That is what I gathered but I don't think thats the reason he didn't return. I think the Flames just didn't want him back.

Pretty sure Schlemko said Calgary wanted him back, but couldnt make room for him.
