Had a very dire tone and said he didn't look sharp in practices. Seemed like he was putting it delicately.

Well a coach isn't going to tip his hand that a goalie doesn't look too good if he knows the team is committed to giving him some starts. Hartley said exactly what a coach should say in that position and I have no doubt that his work ethic has been top notch.

I would actually be more surprised if he came in and had a good game than if he didn't. There's very little chance that he's close to being NHL starter quality right now.
