Do you guys sleep with a weapon beside your bed? I have a club just in case. Would suck to be standing there with your dick in your hands if somebody had broken into your house.

I keep an AK-47 bayonet in my sock draw, which is in a small bureau at the head of the bed.

Never had to use it, but nice to know it's there...

Is a knife a good idea, though? It's not like we're in a stand-your-ground province. I bought a tomahawk a couple years ago, but decided against using it on an intruder because I thought it could get me into trouble. I think a club is the way to go.

Would Liquid Ass be considered a chemical weapon and get you charged with war crimes?

Keeping the liquid ass in my house is akin to having a loaded bazooka in my house for the kids to play with. I have that stuff in the garage, in a freezer bag, under lock and key.

I don't know. It's more that it just happened to end up in my dresser. Not sure the legal implications of stabbing someone who ends up in my bedroom at 3:00am after breaking into my house. I would hope I'd have good legal standing...

A bayonet in a scabbard is a club.

I have purchased the Ring.
The motion is a little touchy and can go off a little too much, but it's a very good product.
The key thing to note is that Ring provides a free replacement for life if stolen. So the jackasses go down the street unmounting and stealing the Rings themselves. probably can be done in 20 seconds.
I am in the process of locking down key items in the garage with floor locks and chains. Reducing the amount of time reduces the opportunity. Garage is armed, but I still think they would jack the doors and make off with valuables in about a minute.

Troutman, what the hell? You say he realized you had another car from the keychain then he went and impersonated you?
He might have cased your place out beforehand. To go to the dealership with your keys means he'd have to know exactly what kind of car it was... I suppose he could take the fob and hit buttons on the lot to see which one it was but, wow, that's crazy.
Care to share what you thought the best security solutions were? Maybe you don't want to post publicly but I'm curious what "fortify" means, from someone who experienced it.

Knife is a bad idea. What are you going to do, stab someone? Really? What are the chances it gets wrestled from your hand in a fight?
I'd go with baseball bat. Good deterrence and no one is likely to get killed by it.

Much better to convince the police that you have an extensive collection of antique baseball bats.

I have bear spray that i carry when hunting by my bed for protection, think it's better to spray someone blind than anything else. Have a friend who has a legit Japanese sword above his bed in case lol.

I remember them testing out baseball bats on Deadliest Warrior, and baseball bats are devastating. They are super light, work well in close quarters and break bones like medieval weapons do. A kids' bat would probably be better, better mobility in the confines of a home.
A 22 would be the best choice for a gun, anything bigger than that and you're blind and deaf after the first shot (the intruder will go deaf too, but they might not go blind).
e: Mace is the safest way to go, you can hit them from across the room and they are instantly sent into an abyss of blindness and pain for 45 minutes, and then they're fine. Of course, setting off mase in your home has it's own drawbacks.

Great post, thanks. I'm going to look around my garage tonight to see what I should lock down. Are you just using something like this?

It's actually not like that. You can use as much force as is necessary to defend your life but there is a line for sure. If the cops showed up at your house and your tomahawk was lodged in his back, you're in trouble.

IMO clubs are better options for defense. Sharp objects can be dropped and someone could accidentally seriously injure themselves on them without much help.
If anything, clubs are more menacing. I've owned Katanas and swords and even heard hilarious stories about guys chasing thieves out of their home with a replica Zelda Mastersword. But when my friend asked the real question, "What do you do if they call your bluff? Actually stab the guy?" I realized how dumb a sword is for protection and now consider items like a child's t-ball bat, sawed down dowel etc. a better option as I wouldn't hesitate swinging that at a thief's torso/legs as it would hurt but less likely cause irreversible damage vs swinging a sword at them.
A gun or BB guns that shoot metal is in the same realm as a knife IMO, but I would consider air soft guns reasonable for defending ones self.
A hilariously odd but seemingly effective weapon in theory if you're in a pinch seems to be a power bar. Half club, half whip. However, it doesn't scream, "This guy isn't screwing around like a legit bat or a bottle or wine or something like that."
The actual proper answer is probably to scream, "I've called the cops, GTFO!" rather than engage the thief though.

I dunno about real thieves, but if I were a thief and someone walked at me with their dick in their hands... I'd run.

This should slow them down. Install seems difficult, but I like how they fold down when not in use. They are quite large as well.
As an additional thing, even if you don't have a dog, beware of dog signs, and surveillance and security signs will just say to the PERP to move on to something easier.
Also, just in the Ring! has a new model and they changed the software so you can do live video which is pretty cool.
