Jokipakka looks to me to be a good complimentary player - the kind of guy you want alongside a guy like Hamilton, so he is free to join the rush. With the Flames relying heavily on their top 3, a guy like Jokipakka is a good fit on that second pair

People consider him to be as good as Hjalmarsson?
Pump the brakes with the over-valuation please.

All I've seen people saying is that he plays a similar game to Hjalmersson, and that was just what our D-core needed from a a guy his size and age.

Comparing their skill-set is not the same as comparing their skill level.
If we can say that Gaudreau plays a similar game to Kane, Monahan plays a similar game to Toews, then I think it's fine to say that Kevin plays a similar game to Hjalmarsson.

Not a fair or valid comparison at all as the circumstances Hamilton came into were being under a much bigger microscope and being thrust into top pairing minutes with Broide out.
Jokipakka has looked solid but he's slid in under the radar with virtually no expectations to live up.
Very different circumstances than Hamilton joining the team.

I think he has been good, but I'm not sure if he has been fantastic. From what I see, he moves the puck well, but he is a bit slow and gets caught out of position sometimes. And while, yes, he is big, he doesn't really use his size.
Maybe he'll get better, but as he is, he's a decent #4 and a great #5

This is how I've seen it. He tries to use his size but isn't that effective at it. Still a solid addition.

I like how he is strong and can physically seperate the opposition from the puck. He's had a few turnovers, but most of them have been the result of not being able to find a forward to make an outlet pass to because all 3 of them are at the centre ice line, which points to the fallacy of Hartley's stupid breakout system.
I really think most of the "turnover" issues are a result of the system. The defensemen have to make a perfect long stretch pass pretty much every time, or it gets intercepted or goes for icing.
I understand stretching the neutral zone which gives the defenders more time and space, but it's ridiculous how stretched out the forwards are from the defenders, you don't need all 3 guys on the other side of centre. It wouldn't kill you to have a short outlet option for the defensemen.

The big thing with Hamonic is his contract. He has a great contract. If he was making $6m/year he doesn't have the same value he has now.
That said - he has shown to be much better than Jokipakka.

I'm getting tired of Hawks comparisons.
So far we have Monahan who isn't quite as good, but comparable to Toews
Gaudreau who isn't quite as good, but comparable to Kane
Now Jokipakka who isn't as good, but comparable to hjalmarsson?
Does the idea of being not nearly as good, but comparable to Chicago really excite people?

How dare you talk about Hamonic?
As dammbage79 said, this thread is only for Jokipakka's appreciation.

That's profound. And the acquisition cost for Hamonic vs. Jokkipakka?
Really silly thread derailment. If Jokkipakka is part of a package for Hamonic, then he's far from the main part of it. And no reason but wild speculation to imagine that would happen anyway.
So what is his future with the club? Probably a number 4-5 for years to come at a reasonable cap hit. This is precisely the kind of player the Flames need for 4-6 with so much cap spent on our top three.

No, it's for player evaluation. Unfortunately, what you did was throw a wrench into the thread by classifying him as trade bait, and now people are comparing him to Hamonic when it's a bears and chairs comparison.
Do you think he fits as a 3rd pairing? As Dougie's partner? That's what this thread is concerning. If you want to talk about using him as trade bait there's a megathread for that.

I think he's shown he's competent as dougie's partner, but he hasn't proven he's good as dougie's partner. I guess the question is do guys prefer(assuming we can drop Wideman and LTIR Smid):
Brodie-Hamilton
Gio-Engelland
Jokipakka-Nakladal
Wotherspoon
or do they prefer
Gio-Brodie
Jokipakka-Hamilton
Wotherspoon-Nakladal
Engelland
And I really like Nakladal so I'm not budging on that one.

No idea. I'm just hoping to get Hamonic and if Jokipakka+ can be used to obtain it, that would be perfect.
As far as where he fits? no idea. The team has 3 mainstays in Gio, Brodie, Hamilton. Then it has Wideman, Engelland, Smid still as well. If not one takes these bad contracts then imo he will be 3rd pairing at best. Likely a healthy scratch a few nights with Hartley at the helm.

Sounds a hell of a lot better than not being nearly as bad, but comparable t the Oilers.
