Totally off topic here, but how did you do a search for that article? I like looking at those old google news archives a lot, but when I want to search for a specific article, I cant figure out how??
Google News used to have much better search functionality. But if you go to news.google.com/newspapers and search using the lower search bar, you can usually do well. In this case, a search for "Gilmour lawsuit" turns that story up as the third result.
Also, if you have a Calgary Public Library card (they are free to get, and donation supported), the CPL's website has access to a huge archive of Canadian papers - mainly the current PostMedia stuff (Herald, Edmonton Journal, Vancouver Province, etc), Globe and Mail, etc. going back to about the year 2000.

To all the people who think the fans in Montreal suck:
When all your teammates line up to lift the Stanley Cup, look at their faces, especially Lanny’s. Look at the crowd at the Montreal Forum, sticking around to give your team a standing ovation. Appreciate this moment.
I, along with more than 95% percent of Flames fans in the Saddledome that night, stuck around and gave the Habs a standing ovation after game 5 of the 1985-86 SCF.

I've always been a huge Killer fan! When I was a kid/teen I was a huge autograph hound! Used to go get Flames autographs after the games and practises! Gilmour was always one of the very best signers! He always signed everything I gave hIm. Always chatted with us about Hockey. On multiple occasions after he signed everything for us I can remember him "hanging out" for a bit after. Looking through our cards and asking questions.
Yeah, but that was arguably the impetus for the trade TO Calgary. I don't think you can say it had anything to do with the trade to Toronto.
The babysitter rumour happened when he was playing for St. Louis. He was not convicted for it and that is why the Blues traded him. I am not sure if it really happens or not. The trade from Calgary to Toronto was because of Risebrough's ego got the best of him. Gilmour wants more money and Risebrough wouldn't give it to him. They talked some more but Risebrough wouldn't budge that's why he hold out and wouldn't play. Risebrough ruined this team.

It was more than a rumour. There was a charge which was dropped after a settlement. It is true that it may or may not have happened.
Ego? There was probably ego on both sides, but the fact is that Gilmour walked out on his team mid-season. Not after the arbitration, mid-season!
Because he and Risebrough didn't get along and he eavesdropped on Risebrough saying he'd like to trade him?
Assuming it's all true, and without hearing Risebrough's side, he still walked out on his teammates, mid-season, in a valid contract which he signed (after an arbitration). He didn't sue the arbitrator, he didn't make the allegations of bias until much later. He took his dispute with management out on his teammates and the fans of the team.
It's truly amazing only a short time ago, this is how we all received the news, paper and print during our morning coffee.
Imagine had this article and incident occurred today. Real time news sites, 24 hour news, endless analysis. Gilmour's career would have been substantially different than how it played out.

It would've been like the Kane stories, assuming the Gilmour thing was BS too.
Gilmour was one of my favourite players as a kid. I loved him and a piece of me died when Risebrough traded him. There's a lot of things I can't remember from my childhood, but I remember that morning and hearing about the trade on the radio.
In 89 when I was 4 my family moved to Calgary and ended up living two doors down from Gilmour. I went to kindergarten with his daughter, and have many fond memories of the Gilmour family. He taught me how to make a wrist shot playing street hockey. I remember being envious of his daughter's fancy toys, the powerwheels and big screen tv. My dad used to sit on the front lawn drinking beer in the summer, heckling Gilmour as he did laps of the neighbourhood on rollerblades.
I remember being really pissed when he was traded. I was too young to understand the reasons, I just knew my friends were leaving. It wasn't until 04 that I gave up the grudge and started cheering for the flames again.
It sucks hearing the bad things about him. Knowing that he wasn't faultless when it came to the trade. Reading about the lawsuit. I'll always look back on those few years I knew him fondly. While he may have faults, he was still a great guy.
