I didn't know that, I thought this was like 1984 in that the TV had to be on all the time as mandated by the government.

That's amazing, thanks for updating my personal knowledge base, big cookies.

But again, I wasn't commenting on whether or not I would personally watch, which simply put I don't.

But to me its a toilet bowl, two probable bad teams in a showcase game is stupid, and whether the NHL and the media have forgotten or not, there are other super stars beyond Conner McMediaMonster out there that play for better contending teams that are more worth the showcasing effort.

Any chance we get another season of Oil Change out of this?

Consider your options, CC.

We already knew the Jets were hosting the next Heritage Classic. That has been known for years.

Ottawa and Vancouver participated in the last one, and neither is worth a can of beans right now.

Toronto is scheduled for something as yet unbranded in 17-18. My bet is they get the Habs for that NHL centennial magic, given those are the only two original NHL teams left.

So your choices for the Jets opponents are Calgary or Edmonton. We've played an outdoor game far more recently than the Oilers, and based on this year, we don't satisfy the "better than a toilet bowl" argument either.

Even before you factor the McHype hype, the Oilers are the most logical choice.

The outdoor games are great for local fans where the game is played. There will be a ton of excitement leading up to it and the weekend will be awesome. The alumni game will be great and draw a lot of interest especially with the Smythe division rivalry between the two teams. Add to that the fact that they have a new stadium to play this in and this is a great game for Winnipeg.

There's lots of negativity that seems to be just for the sake of bashing. I hate the Oilers and dont care for the Jets yet I can see why this game was given to Winnipeg. The game will be a success. The outdoor games are for local fans. Too much complaining about people saying they need to be rare and special. Seriously, dont eatch. The NHL wont miss you and your negativity.

At least the Heritage Classic will actually be played outdoors.

I'm so annoyed they called that travesty in Vancouver the Heritage Classic. How can you call a game played in a large indoor arena a Heritage Classic?

This is literally going to be a outdoor toilet bowl, it shouldn't be allowed to happen.

I tend to think that the outdoor games should be a rematch of the Stanley Cup finals on neutral ground.
So you think the winter classic should have been Chicago v Tampa and it should have been played in let's say Minnesota? Or Denver? Or Washington? Neutral site is a terrible idea. They could never sell that to the cities hosting the games. Would you freeze your butt off at McMahon stadium for a couple hundred bucks to go watch Tampa and Chicago?

I get what you're trying to say in that it should be once a year and have it be special, but neutral site just makes zero sense and would never be successful.

The benefit of an October game is that majority of the people watching won't know how bad the teams are since it is so early in the season. Had this game been in February with both teams in the basement's basement it would come across more like the Twit Olympics from Monty Python

I think it says a lot that Bob Essensa and Teppo Numminem are brought up when listing the top players all-time for a team. They probably wouldn't even crack the lineup of an Oilers or Flames alumni team.

Oh? He has twice the career points as Jamie Macoun who was on the alumni squad. Half a point per game for a D man career. Cmon man.

Yah, not sure why people are getting so upset about these. They're really a chance for the host city to have some fun. No one outside of Calgary gave a crap when we had it a few years back, but Flames fans had a blast.

Add Thomas Steen and Morris Lukowich to that list (to name a couple)

Winnipeg had very high calibre teams in the 80's that kept being stonewalled by the Oilers, the greatest dynasty in the league history. If you dont believe me just google some 80's playoff results. Just dont look at 84/85 86/87.
Sure if you were a Jets fan, I guess Teppo Numinen is a memorable name. Tkachuk and Zhamnov did more elsewhere. Bob Essensa? Wasn't his nickname "Backup Bob"?

Your high calibre team topped out at 2nd place, once in the Smythe in the 80's. A 5 team division. Pretty mediocre, I'd say.

And yeah I remember losing to the Jets. I remember well how I couldn't believe we lost to a lesser team. Which, incidentally, was probably a precursor to the trainwrecks that were the 1990's Flames playoff disappointments.

Teppo Numminen was a memorable name to me and I'm not a Jets fan. Maybe that just means I'm old, I dunno.

Nah I remember him, you don't have to be that old. I just don't think many are going to swoon at the sight of him at an alumni game. Numinen was a solid defenseman but are Jets fans really expecting the rest of the league's fans to care? And when I ask that, I'm not saying the rest of the league's fans cared when Jamie Macoun strapped em on either. I liked it because I liked Jamie Macoun and cheered for the Flames. But I'm not naive enough to tell others how he should be memorable to them.

People tune in for the Alumni games? Wow.

It's a game for Jets fans mostly I would think so who cares what the rest of the league thinks?

It should have been Jets vs Coyotes IMO. Then let the Oilers host one next.

Really? You're worked up over nothing. This is a game for Winnipeg fans and Edmonton fans. It's not for Flames fans or Ranger fans so who cares?
