To complete that Edm-Ana deal: Patrick Maroon to the Oilers for prospect Martin Gernat and a fourth-round pick in 2016

Damn - I was hoping it would be a much better prospect. Didn't Gernat flame out the last couple years and there were discussions they would mutually terminate the contract last summer so he could go back to Europe?!

Edmonton looks like they're trying to build a really slow team outside of their top 5 of Hall, MdDavid, Eberle, McDavid and Yak.

Ducks retaining salary:
Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Anaheim eats 25% of Maroon's $2M cap hit for next 2 years. EDM on hook for $1.5M AAV.

Haha! What was the point of that?

Odd trade from Anaheim's standpoint.

I'm pretty sure the point is to save cap space.

I meant from Anaheim's perspective. Let the Oilers swallow that boat-anchor of a contract.

LeClerc, blast from the past. Easily the slowest Flame I've ever seen.

I'd say the trade was pretty good for the Oilers. Obviously they want to get bigger and having the ducks retain 25% is good.

Its fantastic for the Oilers. Other than the fact that he isnt a very good player, at least hes less expensive than he was.

They want to get bigger, but slower?
Maroon is a product of playing for a very good team, he's going to be a slow guy on a slow line unless they make him a top 6 guy which he's not.
Good luck with the Oilers trying to build 90's trap hockey.

This appears to be a budget move for the Ducks.
