So you'd prefer to lose him for nothing in a few months?

This is a good trade for both teams.
Florida get's a pretty good player and doesn't have to overpay.
Flames turn a free agent signing into a top 60 pick+. That's solid asset management.
Flames seem to be developing trade partners. First the Canucks and now the Panthers.

If Hudler played all season like he did for the last week, would have got more. Good return for the season he's been having.

Really should have done a poll of what people expected in return for Hudler (believe we did one for Russell). Would have liked to see what people expected given many are disappointed.

Meh, should have been worth more IMO but GMs are looking for size this deadline.
Considering other players who aren't as good got more I am kinda disappointed.

Can't blame Treliving. The market was thinning for buyers and there were some better options still on the market(Boedker being the main one) and this was clearly the best offer he had. Whilst the return was poor, he wasn't in a position to turn this down.
Just hope he gets a better return on Russell.

Best of luck to Huds. I was a huge fan of his and kind of hoped he'd stick around but the writing was on the wall.

That's weak. I would be looking for prospects to fit the window of our other guys. I don't know why we need more late picks.

Hudler traded to Florida for 2016 2nd + 2018 4th round picks

Hemsky was and still is hanging on to his NHL career by a thread. Hudler should have gone for more considering he was one of the more highly decorated players on the market this year. Slightly underwhelming IMO given that Brad held most of the cards in this deal and lesser players have already gone for similar or better returns (Polak, Weise).

Who cares what Glencross got us? It was a different year and a different market.
Cammalleri also got us nothing (and offered just a 3rd) so based on that, this is a homerun.
Good return overall.

People have to remember that Hudler is a 32 year old smallish winger on an expiring contract set to become an UFA, and is having a bit of a down year. You aren't going to get a ton for someone like that.

Why 2018? Doesn't even make any sense. Didn't know 4th round picks were so highly coveted...then again we're talking about the Flames picking in the 4th round. It can basically be considered a 1st overall in disguise.

Gonna miss you Huds. That top line was showing flashes of last year lately. Ah well, all the best. Really likeable guy.
Let's go Panthers!
