The whole CalgaryNEXT fiasco didn't help either. I always thought I'd have to give up my tickets when they built a new arena, as I imagined I wouldn't be able to afford seats, but it doesn't look like that will even be a concern for the next 5 to 7 years.
Anyway, I'm curious to hear the reasons other STH aren't renewing.

I hear you, the Flames have been rebuilding for 20 years. Outside of a Cinderella run in 2004, a strong regular season in 05-06 and last season. There hasn't been much to cheer about as a Flames fan. I mean they have only made it to the 2nd round twice since 1989.
That being said, I'm going to renew. I can easily afford my seats in the first row of the PL. I only go to the games with my 8 year old son and I really do enjoy taking him. Also, with the new Ticket Exchange I have almost been able to pay for next years tickets with the sales of the games I can't attend (if they play as bad next year that could be tough going forward). If I had more expensive tickets, I probably would't renew. I love the Flames, but history shows that no matter how good things look on paper with this team, the results simply arn't there year after year.

Our seats are third row of the PL (Black Section per the fee schedule I believe). It was $2,386 to renew for two seats. I renewed.
Didn't renew my Stamps seasons tickets though. I've went from paying $30 something a game to around $60 in the past 4-5 years since the Flames became involved. I miss too many games in the summer to warrant them anymore, and quite honestly I find the play quality to have severely declined. Doesn't entertain me and I generally don't care about the outcome anymore.

The amount of truth behind this is depressing.

My buddy is giving up his half of our PL tickets next season. I'll be honest, this season has been a struggle to attend. Half the time on game day I question whether I want to go or watch from home. I don't want to give them up, but after 11 seasons we're getting fatigued.

Yup, big time struggle. I often find myself staring at the clock hoping that I get out of there at a reasonable time. I've left a few games at the 2nd intermission this year, and I've never done that in the past.

I'm in seats 3 & 4 in the first row. There was a mixup when I went to the relocation event. I thought I had picked up your old seats, but I ended up at the other end of the aisle when they sent out the tickets later that year. I think whoever tagged the seats had 3 & 4 mixed up with 13 & 14 and I didn't catch it for some reason.

That's the problem when you're a team that's rebuilding but the play on the ice isn't entertaining. If you're going to be a bottom dweller, you better at least play your heart out to engage the fans...which the team this year hasn't done as effectively as last year, even though on paper we are a better team.
Having said that, I hope the Flames don't try to rush the rebuilt just to appease the entertainment factor. It's a bit of a struggle at the moment, but we all knew that going in.

It's also the lack of success. It's only my first year as a STH but I can imagine that 25 years of being mostly terrible with a few years of being mediocre and one season that could be called a "success" is enough to drain anyone.
Hopefully this is the core that is able to bring some sustained success for this team.

I recieved my renewal for my seats in 211 whites. It was good to see that they didn't increase the prices but I don't think I'm going to renew. I can never make more then 15 games a year and selling the remainder has become far to challanging. I couldn't get rid of the Islanders game tonight even offering them up at below Season ticket price. Time to walk away and enjoy the games on sports net. Plus the Dome is a disaster and kills the experience for me.

how many years in a row did the Flames increase prices? It had to have been something like a decade? Holding the price is...ok... they should've considered reducing which, I know, preposterous right?
Here's the thing. With the Canadian dollar the way it is, the Canadian economy the way it is... if I was an NHL player, I'd be concerned but overall league-wide revenues given Canadian markets drive most of the high value franchises. Calgary is going to see a significant softening, and I think other markets will too like Edmonton for example.
That's one thing, the other thing is the problem as i see it with the game. The NHL today, is not what it was a few years ago. It's not a massive problem, but it's just not what it used to be. They took out the physical edge of the game, and by extension, some of the competitiveness. Night in and night out, the games are just not that interesting anymore. Of course this isn't every game, some games are still good. But on the balance of the whole... not as good a product as it used to be.

What a difference a week or so makes. How is everyone feeling about renewal now?
I was very much on board to renew for next year when the notice came...but after some of these terrible efforts and questionable bench decisions, I am on the fence with what to do.
Will likely take right up until the deadline to make my decision one way or another.

You're not going to renew because of one losing streak during the rebuild?
The future is bright, and it's not that far away. I hope lots of people don't renew this year and I improve my seats significantly.

Just think of how many Calgary Foothills season tickets you can buy with the money you'll save!

So why this year then? As you stated, you aren't happy with the on ice results, but as you point out its been a common theme for a long time, so what pushed you over the edge?
You talk about the poor concourse situation and line ups, but again, that's not new. And then in a weird way, you complain about CalgaryNext being a fiasco (not sure why) but in the same breath suggest you always thought the new rink would force you out, but now that it's 5 years away, you are going to give up tickets. So you hate the facilities, but always thought the solution to the facility problems would be the end of your ability to keep tickets, but your also super pissed that the solution (the one that was going to be what forced you out) isn't forcing you out fast enough, so your out?
To be honest, sounds a little like your having a tantrum after a tough season and loss and are chucking everything against the wall to see what sticks. Cool if you no longer see the value, but this enough is enough facade you are trying to pull is silly. We have a great ownership and operations group here who at least tries to win, invests in the community and team each year. Stop your crying.

This is the 3rd year of a rebuild...the first proper rebuild ever
its frustrating to be sure but the team has more young talent than ever before IMO is is about to get another quality young player. Couple shrewd moves in the off season and next season could be a really entertaining one
people are free to spend their money on whatever they like...but I wouldn't bail because of a tough season...we all wanted a rebuild

I am renewing. Tough year for sure, but with a little lottery luck and progression from the kids, we should be on the right path. Looking forward to moving seats, and it sounds like there may be some options.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I renewed ... I really like our young core ... the management Treliving has shown so far is encouraging .... I do agree the game has lost something the last few years but I still enjoy this team ... I've been a STH since 99 and I really haven't thought about giving them up .... I guess I'm optimistic ... watching the Flames win the Stanley Cup in 89 has engrained this team into the fabric of my being I guess .... 2004 was awesome , it really rejuvenated this fan base ... I think we have a real chance again with this core and management team .. I'm along for the ride either way ...

I've renewed, in the whites and will prob never leave them. I really hope tons of sourpuss sthers leave.
I feel we need some fresh blood in the building, liven up the barn a bit more, with less negativity and more happy to be there attitudes.
Plus, I really want to move down about 4 more rows! If anything, I want to get away from the annoying sth dude beside me!, lol.
At any rate, I always use only half my season and share the other. If the team is good or bad, I've never had one year that I couldn't do this.
Cheers!
