Who would have thought 2 years ago that Baertschi would be a Canuck and Shinkaruk would be a Flame?

Well, this will make all those people who lost their minds at the Draft happy.
I assume that waiver issues are the big factor here. Granlund becomes waiver-eligible next season. Shrinkydink is still exempt for two more years.

we all were questioning where granlund fits into the lineup/future given his position...
love the asset management on this, if it's a straightup prospect for prospect.

Wow.
Not sure why Van would do this trade, makes sense for us since Granlund was trending to be like Backlund and we need more top 6 skill.

So, now we have to be excited about Shinkaruk instead of hating him?

No problem with this as they are buying low on Shinkaruk who has had a great season on the AHL. Grandly do is a useful player but it seems like an odd return for the Canucks.

I haven't liked Shinkaruk, but I suspect it's another Baertschi trade scenario. Management doesn't see a spot for the player long term and he's about to be waiver eligible. May as well get an asset back.
Still, Shinkaruk has been a dink.

How do you deal Shinkaruk without even giving him an opportunity here?
Idiotic.

Granlund hasn't performed well in the NHL so far. Still has some potential, but Shinkaruk is more of a winger than Granlund is, so. We'll have to see how he can perform in the NHL.

Isn't he the kid from Calgary who dropped at the draft because of attitude concerns and said he'd make calgary regret not taking him?

I like Shinkaruks numbers in the AHL. Granlund seems a bit ahead of him developmentally but I just didn't see Granlund here long term. Just didn't see where he fit.
