You can't just gut a team like that and keep meatheads like Peluso and and Thorburn and Stuart and expect good results. If this team had Hellebuyck from the start of the year and still had Tlusty/Stemp/Frolik this is a #3 team in the central.

Hell, just Hellebuyck himself and his expected points per game would put Winnipeg in a wildcard spot. Chevy is a terrible manager of talent and evaluator of talent and has totally scuttled this season. If he screws up the BUff and Ladd situations... jesus. This team will truly be doomed for 3 more years minimum.
Oh brother. Tlusty and Stempniak were the difference? Frolik sure. But it's not like Chevy didn't add. Ehlers replaces one and Burmistrov the other. A few journeymen is not the difference between playoffs and basement

It appears to be so far because with those players the Jets were in the post season last year. Your also doing very curious roster management here for me. Frolik and Stempniak replacing Thorburn and Peluso on RW make huge differences. Who's talking about Ehlers? He's fine. Burmistrov is a centre. Cmon.

Not a coincidence both those guys went to NJ as that team probably has the worst forward depth in the league. The only team that could promise both top 9 minutes. Why am I bringing up Ehlers? Because he's a very productive player, and he wasn't on your team last year. So he's a warm body replacing one UFA forward. That's all.

Again if you're trying to rationalize that a few journeymen were the difference makers then the team was probably just a fluke and playing above their heads. It's ok... so were the Flames.

The NHL has very few bad teams anymore. I remember when I first started watching hockey and half the teams in the league were bad. Now there's only a few select teams that actually suck and all those teams actually improved from last year (EDM, BUF are actually better). Arguably the league overall has gotten better. TOR as one of the worst teams on paper in the league managed to snag one of the best coaches.

So unfortunately for Winnipeg they are a decent team in a division full of strong teams. Tough gig for Chevy as they moved from the east and actually just took some steps back because of that.

Winnipeg has a lot of promise. Lots of promising young NHLers and solid prospects. I think the Byfuglien and Ladd situations are huge for them and how Chevy handles it should determine his job. I think he did pretty well in an awkward situation with Kane. WPG although they've sucked haven't been able to draft top 5 and they could really use a lottery pick this year.

Interesting situation to keep an eye on.

Stempniak went there on a PTO, I don't think they were guaranteeing him top 9 minutes at that time. Jets could have kept him for 1M or less.

Losing Frolik was also huge. They went from having good penalty killing to terrible penalty killing. That's a big deal for a team that takes as many penalties as the Jets. Too bad Frolik hasn't helped the Flames penalty killing like I thought he would, but there is still time for that.

It's not a low blow. Kane was a distraction in Winnipeg and it followed him right to Buffalo.

No. The Jets were in the playoffs last year because they put together a good run in the last half of the season to get there. It looks more likely to have been a product of the shakeup induced by the removal of Kane, and not because they are a good team.

The Jets are who we thought they were, and Winnipeg is still terrible.

Jets need to move Ladd, and maybe Byfuglien too. 6x6 for Ladd is way too much. Byfuglien's contract will also be an albatross in 3-4 years.
