Not to mention, Anderson seemed to get a long look at camp this year.

Both are probably a season or two away, but both also have the talent to potentially fast track.

I voted no, but I'm on the fence with this.

There's obviously talent there, but do we have space? How about we drop a forward to the minors and carry 8 defencemen? But is that worthwhile? To me there's probably a good reason this guy can't crack 2 NHL line-ups.

No thanks. The Flames have as good or better options already in the system.

Treliving would be very familiar with him and have a good beat on what his ceiling is.

Why? I hope it's not because he was a first round pick. Six years ago.
I 100% agree with you on this. I am sick of hearing the "he was a 1st round pick" as justification for some player. So was Patrik Stefan. And Alexandre Daigle And Steve Kelly... All that meant was they were projected by at least one team to be good players when they were 18 years old. It doesn't mean anything more than that.

/end rant.

I voted Yes... but it's close.

Finding space shouldn't be hard. Waive Smid... either he get's claimed and we get cap relief for next year or he's not and we can shuffle him to the minors. I'd guess he gets bought out in the offseason if we can't find a trade partner anyways.

The Flames need to get cheaper depth and right now he looks like cheap depth to me.

He's basically Wotherspoon. No, seriously.

This makes trading one of our current D-men a lot easier. D-men take longer to develop and he fits the age range we want to be in. Trade 6/4/29 for assets and bring in free ones that support the rebuild. Seems like a no brainer

Are the Avalanche trying to clear a roster spot to allow them to bring Nikita Zadorov back up from San Antonio?

They are playing the Predators tomorrow night and the Avs have been closing the gap in the standing. Perhaps they are looking for a counter to the Predators' shiny new player with the hope of closing in on the final Wild Card spot.

No thanks. We already have our own Brandon in the system - more talented and tougher.

Much as I'd love to see a PEIslander on the Flames, no.

I was one wanting to trade Sven for him (pre-drafting two good defence prospects). I figured they were in similar circumstances.

I think Gormley is a better asset than Sven at this point.

Kind of indifferent here. I thought Gormley going to COL would have given him the chance he needed to put it all together. He hasn't. Wouldn't mind him but the Flames have 3 d men too many as it is and no signs of any movement from the Flames on that any time soon.

I would think Treliving was involved in drafting and grooming him, probably has some kind of emotional attachment to him. I think this is very possible.
1st team All Star at the WJC in 2012...not too many bad players make that list.

Rather than claim him, I'd trade for him if he clears. Smid, Engelland, Wotherspoon... I'd move any of them for Gormley. Awkward with the roster to just pick him up off waivers.

Yeah, if BT claims him it will be because he knows more than everyone else.

Lukewise if he passes.

This is the ultimate "in BT we trust scenario."

I like the Gormley and Nakladal suggestions. Move out Smid and Russell for cap savings.
