I think it's a worthwhile gamble for the Oilers. If he can his life together, he has the tools to be a decent player. No, he is not a top 6 forward, but he could certainly fill a void for them (as he could have for the Flames).
And congratulations to Scrivens for escaping and getting another chance.

Cam Talbot, take a good look at Scrivens, this is you is 11-14 months.
Once again, an Oiler trade is only able to be consummated because the acquired player has zero options or zero choice on going anywhere else.

Talbot will be a UFA this summer. They can't hold him hostage.

No kidding eh? Hendricks is supposed to provide toughness and he got trucked by a 19 year old middleweight twice in a span of three seconds. That was so good.

While I hate the oilers the city of Edmonton is actually really nice. It's no different than Calgary. These jokes are so stale

Is he worse than what they have on their 4th line right now?
I think it is an upgrade if he can get his stuff together.

Good gamble for the Oilers. Whether it turns out to be a good acquisition remains to be seen.
Scrivens is overpaid garbage and had negative value, and they turned it into an unknown that at least has potential upside.

Calgary and Edmonton are very different cities with very different feels, and that's a fact. While which one you prefer is a total personal preference thing, and I actually agree with you the the "crappiness" of Edmonton is vastly exaggerated in here (just my opinion), but to suggest the cities are very similar is simply false.

She plays goalie for the NWHL. Doubt she lived in Edmonton at all

I am remaining cautiously positive about this trade. When he was in juniors, I liked his grit and toughness but not his dirty plays-his big elbow to the head of a Czech player(?). When he was traded to Van city, I knew it would make them tougher to play against and sure enough busted Gagner's jaw with an accidentally on purpose stick swing (though some will disagree on the intent). I hope the team will be a better influence on him and his extracurricular activities than vice versa.

Either that, or there are some damn fast flights between Bakersfield and Tampa.

One of the biggest oafs in NHL history to the Oilers. What's not to like?

I predict that Kassian and Torres get their heads on straight on the same day....
Kassian's problems go beyond his substance issues - he's never had the attitude or work ethic to put forth a full effort every night. It's a personality issue. How many leopards truly change their spots in their mid-20s?

This trade by Chia reminds me of Sather's moves when he would take a chance by getting reclamation projects and hopefully, 'rehabbing' them to good use.
