The acquisition of dougie Hamilton was a train robbery. It's Pronger-to-Edmonton level in its capacity to change the date of a team.

When he's 25, and our D looks like

Brodie-Hamilton
Gio-Hickey
Kylington-Andersson

That could be the best possession D in the league.

I sure liked Hamilton's game last night, if anything he needs to be more selfish and fire that puck instead of looking for that seam pass, but I agree with GreenLatern above, what a steal by Treliving.

He has been great especially last night he had some really good defensive plays around the front of the net. He is also handling the puck with alot more confidence, and he has to be one of the best shooters on our team.

I like Dougie but easy now.

There is a low chance that all three of Hickey, Kylington, and Andersson become NHLers. As well, if you're a contender, you want some more veteran presence than just Gio.

We'd be SO lucky to have one of those three become a regular NHLer in 3 years, let alone all three.

Three years from now Brodie will be a veteran at 28 and Hamilton will be five + seasons into his career. Combine that with Gio and that's a fine blue line as far as experience goes.

Your point about the young players all panning out is a fair one though.

Agreed.

Having said that, Kyllington looks good in the AHL as an 18 year old. He skates like an NHLer already. And he has tremendous offensive skills. The only question mark was his defensive skills and IQ. Well, based on his progress so far, I think he is a lock for the NHL within 3 years (possibly less).

Hickey is interesting. Looking at his play at the WJCs, he appears to be at a very similar level to where Wotherspoon was at the time. The difference is that he is a better skater and has more offensive talent. Considering that Wotherspoon is on the verge of being an NHLer, with his shortcomings being offense and skating, Hickey seems to have a pretty good shot if he continues to develop on pace.

With Andersson still being in the CHL, we don't really have any reliable benchmarks yet. Having said that, he certainly impressed in Flames camp this year.

The learning curve for defensemen is huge, and only a small percentage make it. But I would not be surprised if 2 of these guys are on the team in 3 or 4 years.

Yeah, you just never know how players will progress. Wotherspoon is a good example. I personally thought he'd be here by now.

High hopes for those three, but it's heavy lifting to say they're all going to make it. Even more so to say three guys on their ELC are going to turn the Flames into the best possession defence in the league.

Really would not be surprised if Hamilton and Brodie become two of the top defence in the NHL. Brodie is on the cusp.
