Maybe the Flames should grab Stoll too so he can teach some of those faceoff skills to Monahan, Bennett, Backlund and Granlund.
55.4% career faceoff%
57.9% this season.

Stoll would be a better pickup if we could get rid of Raymond.

Would rather go after Bernier.
However, I would not be against the idea of giving him a shot and sending Hiller down to get some work.
Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work and their goaltending remains as bad as ever.

Question: if you grab someone off waivers, can you send them down on a conditioning stint to get a few games in?

Love that the Rangers keep Glass over Stoll.
He's no world beater but a decent 13th forward who can win faceoffs

Actually, worst case scenario is that they have yet another bad goalie with a cap hit they can't get rid of.
One nice thing about putting in a claim on Stoll: If he doesn't work out, he's only making $800,000 and you can get the entire amount off the cap by burying him in the minors.

How many goalies will Stockton have? 3? 4?

Just 2, probably. But Adirondack will have goalies like they were leftover Christmas turkey.

I think Simpson is the only goalie that could goto the ECHL. If you have an NHL contract, you can't be assigned there.
So potentially we could have Ortio, Poulin, Hiller/Ramo and Gillies if he's back at all this year?

Need to let Ramo play it out, were still in the playoff hunt. Goalie numbers are this seasons Analytics. Just watch the anomaly playout.

That's not the case. Players on ELCs can be assigned to the ECHL without their permission. Players on regular NHL contracts can be assigned with their consent.

Gotcha...the point still stands, short of Gillies going, we'd still be stuck with 3 goalies in Stockton

They should claim him. Send Hiller out to pasture, his NHL career is over.
No hard feelings, just business.

Ortio refused to go the AHL for a conditioning stint, so I can't see him volunteering to go to the ECHL.

Would be an upgrade on Hiller. That said is there room for Hiller in Stockton? No chance any team will trade or pick up Hiller on waivers. Also doesn't Hiller have a NMC? I can't see him waiving clause for Stockton.
Flames can't put themselves back into 3 goalie mess.
Edit: Burke and managements rule of X-mas trade might fall under the category of sending a vet like Hiller down. Depending when Bouma comes back i'm not convinced that Granlund does not get sent down because of trade freeze rule.

Gillies is done for the year, so that's not a problem. Ortio's backup would just get released if we sent another crappy NHL backup down to Stockton.

Gillies isn't going anywhere until he recovers from his surgery. It comes down to Ortio, Poulin, and Simpson. Simpson can be sent to the ECHL at any time, and I suspect Poulin would also go if asked. So far this season, he's been claimed off waivers once and traded for future considerations once. He probably wouldn't pass up any opportunity to keep playing so he can work his way back up.

Not according to General Fanager or Hockey's Cap.

I don't think it is a big deal if there are more than 2 goalies in Stockton.
Besides Gillies, the only one with a chance of a future with the Flames is Ortio (and how much a future is debatable). The rest are likely forgotten about in the off season.
