That was never a possibility.
I'm more thankful Johnny didn't listen to his mom and go back for his senior year, landing him in free agency. Seeing him do these things for Philly would have been heartbreaking.

He might want a 6 year contract instead on an 8 year contract, but that might actually bring the value down. Maybe 6.8x6.
6.71925 x 8 would be a dream.
I think I'd actually rather it by 7-8 mill but for 8 years like Vinny01 said. He might feel more loyal to the team after 10 years of being a Flame.

Over a PPG on a team that struggles offensively in his 2nd year. The sooner this contract gets locked up the better IMO.

Sorry to nit pick but since when do the Flames struggle offensively? 4th in EV goals for and middle of the pack in total goals for.
Johnny can't make more than Gio. He'll get $6.5 x 8 yrs. Monahan will get an identical contract.

I felt the same way at the end of last season, but Johnny is proving he's on a different level than Monahan.

I'm not convinced Monahan will be getting an identical contract. I could see Monahan signing a similar contract to Hamilton

What will Gaudreau's next contract be?

Production-wise yes, but not in terms of total value. Monahan is turning into a young franchise 2way centerman. He's on the ice for all the important situations including OT and shootouts. He is producing .8ppg?
I'm convinced that they're on track to get identical contracts. A la Toews and Kane.

Yeah Johnny is the team at this point. I'd pick him over Monahan in a heartbeat. If we didn't have Bennett and Jankowski I'd say maybe otherwise but Gaudreau will lead the team in points for a long long time, by a very wide margin.

At the start of the year I figured they would get matching contracts but Gaudreau has seperated himself. If they get matching deals Monahan is either making too much or Gaudreau has taken a nice discount.

Agreed. Gio's contract is not a steal. Hamilton's may one day turn out to be but I'm not yet convinced. He is still not ready for top pairing minutes.
Johnnys going to get paid a lot. I believe the guy is the real deal and the Flames need to get every year of term they can.
I will let someone else argue whether he's the player you build a Stanley Cup champion around. That would make for a good debate but he's the most exciting thing about the Flames and it's not close.

I assumed so with our garbage power play, i guess scoring 22 goals in a 5 game home stand doesn't hurt that GFA either.
Earlier in the season we had a hard time scoring goals, pretty sure Johnny was in on almost half of them maybe more the first 10-15 games of the season.

Johnny can absolutely make more than Gio.

Ditto. Almost every single long-term contract (anything over 5 years) scares the crap out of me. As much as nobody thinks bridge deals are good anymore, this is a scenario where you might worry about him getting injured. He's been getting whacked a lot more often this year, and I worry that long-term he might not hold up to the punishment. Having a physical and truculent winger on the right side would go a long way to keeping him healthy over the course of his career.
I'm not saying I'd be opposed to the 8 years and 7 million situation, but if I had a choice I'd choose 3 years at 5 million per and pay him a little extra on his next contract.

Stepan just made $6.5 without ever hitting 60 points.
I'd put Johnny in the Tarasenko range if its a long term contract.

Except Stepan is 25 and has played 5 years....I'm not sure when he was eligible for UFA but he must've been closer than Gaudreau is.
