It's mind bottling this is still being discussed.

It was 100% the collision with Jones that shook him up. The hit was fairly routine until he was awkwardly ran over from behind by Jones (who he didn't see coming).

Not sure where all the confusion comes from. Even the youtube clip is clueless. Should be "Gaudreau shoved by opposing player, ran over hard by David Jones"

Also, this thread title needs to be changed. It incites hysteria just reading the first few words.

The good guys won. Johnny scores the winner. Guess it's OK.

But what if Johnny didn't come back and was sent to the quiet room?

Is it then a dirty play? He was targeted. Plain and simple. Is targeting star players not supposed to be a no no?
Oh it was definitely a targeted hit, he had a decent one on him Johnny's first shift the next period as well. I would have been a-ok seeing a revenge hit from Ferland or something, but it didn't need a call from the refs.

Where he plays shouldn't matter, so it must be a between the ears thing. He feels more at home playing at home. Do opposing buildings intimidate him or something? I dunno.

Match-ups shouldn't slow him down. The top d-men in the league sure aren't able to.

Well in this little sample the evidence shows you can slow him down with match-ups. Would be interesting to see the break down at the end of the season.

Cute, but that really doesn't tell the whole story. The Flames have been playing much better as of recent, with most of those games coming at home.

A lot of those rode games came in Oct/Nov when the team was struggling as a whole.

And if you'd watched all those games (which most likely you have not) he's always been one of our best players on the ice making things happen every time he touches the puck.

The struggles on the road for JG are really overblown at this point. Now that the team is playing better and Monahan is heating up, the points away from the dome will follow suit.

Targeting an opposing key player is fine. I would think it's encouraged.
If you can get a guy off his game by hitting him, do that! Just make sure the hits are clean. I didn't see anything wrong with Ristolainen's hit on Gaudreau, and if David Jones didn't happen to be skating behind him at that exact moment, Johnny would have just been pushed down. No big deal.

I agree it would be nice to see some of our tougher guys be a little harder on some of their players after they target our top players, but There was nothing wrong with what Ristolainen did.

Of course it matters. Matchups are huge.

Absolutely no worry whatsoever about his home/road point totals.

The TEAM was having a bad time on the road, and John's points reflected that. Simply put.

It will even out if the team continues to improve and play consistently.

More to the point - it will improve when the other forwards prove to be more consistent offensive threats on the road, forcing teams to spread out their defensive efforts.

How did he do last year home and away?

Where do you find those stats?

He is doing well in even strength points this year (9th):

No he really doesn't because he's not a centre and rarely ever takes a face off.

^that's the joke

Silver lining to the terrible PP%: can you imagine what Gaudreau and Monahan's numbers will be like when the powerplay starts clicking? They've put up the vast majority of their points at even strength. Actually Johnny has the least number of powerplay points out of the top 30 leading scorers in the NHL.
