His upside, as far as I can see, is that he might possibly return to a level of play at which he is nearly worth the money he's making. It's that salary that keeps him from being worth taking on. High risk, pretty nearly zero reward.

In keeping with which, here's a sure-fire plan for investment success:

1. Buy an iceberg. Watch it inevitably melt away, taking your money with it.

2. Buy a bigger iceberg. It, too, will inevitably melt, but it will take longer, so you will be losing your money more slowly.

See? Improvement! People are short-sighted if they can't see the upside!

Ian White straight up was a better player than Dion... that it didn't really work out didn't change that fact.

Bennet is a monster at drawing penalties.

Sparks with lower body injury tonite in Leafs game - Bernier may need to stick around in Toronto for a while yet.

Sure his mental game is off right now but if you can get them to keep some of the cap, or take a bad contract in return, then it is worth it.

With only 1 year after this one on that contract it doesn't hurt you too much long term if he doesn't find his past forum but if he does find his form you get a serviceable goalie for nothing.
Hiller must have even better upside! He posted .924 with the Ducks and .918 with the Flames last year!

The only way I would want the Flames to take Bernier on would be to get rid of something with a bad contract after this season. Like Raymond. Engelland/Smid/Stajan are other candidates.
