Since it sounds like this is happening frequently, could you pull an all-nighter (or two) to keep watch? Maybe enlist some neighbours to share the duties?
With a young child, it's not like you're sleeping anyway, right?
Chocolate covered coffee beans are key.

I honestly believe it's punks doing this,
I don't think there risking smashing windows as their have been no reports on our neighbourhood of that.
I think they check for unlocked vehicles and grab whatever they find.
Reason I believe it's just punks is because the first time it was my cds and safety glasses
When it was my wife's vehicle (now parked in the garage) they took nothing as she had no valuables
The 3rd time around I had a power inverter in the back (100 value) that was moved around, jackets that weren't touched, safety glasses thrown outside. I think there just roaming at night time checking to see which doors are unlocked.
I set a alarm on my phone to go off at 8 every damn day to remind myself to lock my doors.
I was thinking of setting up a spy camera somewhere that goes off with motion but all the ones on Amazon seem junk.
I would really like get these thieves on video but in the meantime I'll just make damn sure my truck is locked every single time and leave it pretty much empty inside
I used to live in Victoria where this was a major problem. We used to leave our vehicles unlocked, with zero valuables inside and a note in the window that says "there is nothing in here of value".
Then after a while they stop even looking in your car. This was by far the most effective solution.
I think i may have a plan here... i thought about staying up and trying to get footage but with my luck they wont show the nights i plan on staying up. I'm just curious to see if i recognize them from the neighborhood or not... stay tuned for an update...
Over the weekend, my in-laws vehicle got ran sacked, the funny thing is what was taken. On Sunday morning when they realized it, they went in and looked through everything; phone chargers, GPS, spare change, sunglasses and a bunch of other things you'd suspect they'd take were all just moved around and the vehicle was a mess. At first they though someone just went into the vehicle just to mess things up. In the afternoon they were out for a walk and they found out what was stolen; the person/people who did this were after hand sanitizer and anything else that would have alcohol in it. They found a pile of empty containers along with a couple of empty small liquor bottles. The people were just looking for something to get them high.

Yes, people can do some crazy things for a buzz. I remember once at the hospital in Calgary, I saw a patient walk around to all the hand sanitizers and grab a big dollop of the sanitizer and put it in his mouth. I'm not sure if those sanitizers were the alcohol free ones, but he was doing it anyway.
When I was in highschool, a friend of mine worked at a safeway or london drugs or whatever, and his supervisors taught him how to recognize people who buy mouth wash for the sole purpose of drinking it, and what to do when that arises.
It's sad that many people have addiction or illness issues, or both.
This was posted on Reddit last week from Tuscany. Not sure if OP was in the same area, but it's easy to see that there are people who go around in the wee hours just checking if any doors are unlocked.

Glad to see this ####_head is still up to his old ways, this idiot was caught doing this exact same thing last year in Scenic Acres (on more then 1 occasion) and the police were involved. Clearly our superior judicial system worked as you can see he's fully rehabilitated from that devastating slap on the wrist.
What a joke, I'm game for the hide in the car baseball bat rehabilitation for the next confrontation.

Pretty sure this is exactly what is going on in my neighborhood, just walking up to vehicles and checking the door handles... that was a nice clear shot of the face they got from the camera
My car was ransacked in Silverado a few months back. My parents was ransacked multiple times in Somerset. I've had friends who had it happen in Millrise, Bridlewood Evergreen and Sundance. I saw a post on fb with the picture of some girl who was caught doing it in Deer Run.
It's a super easy crime. Just walk down the street and pull on door handles.
Guy who ransacked my car hit the jackpot as I left my work phone in the car (iphone 5c) and had just picked up a quarter and forgot it in my car. Didn't find my sunglasses, thank god.

That sucks they got your iPhone, I forgot to mention i had a $100 gift certificate in my console as well for best buy, luckily it was on a printed paper and folded up. I found it on the floor of my truck, checked the balance this morning and it's still good. Going to use it up ASAP
Time for some home alone type traps I think. Thumb tack under the door handle, iced driveway, paint can wrecking ball.
Contemplating setting rat traps up in my vehicle... that should break a finger or two... Only problem is that will give them motivation to come back and vandalize my property. Guess i don't want to give them any motives to return
They've hit my neighbourhood in Harvest Hills multiple times in the last year or so. Next door lost his iPod, the other neighbour lost all their spare change. Be vigilant about locking your doors.

How do you recognize this guy, was he caught on video before?

I am floored that people forget to lock their vehicle doors.
It is one time my slight OCD comes in handy. If I don't hear it honk twice it isn't locked.
