None of you would bet $1000 on the Flames to make the playoffs, would you?
Even 90 points requires a very high winning percentage. Need 33-20-9.
EDM has higher playoff odds here, I don't know why. Easier schedule remaining?

We're going to need to win more than 1 game at a time.
Frankly, I don't see any real improvement in defensive play and until I do, I won't get my hopes up.
We need our captain to get his head out of his ass.

Yes the Flames only need to make up 5 points but they have to win to get points and this team just isn't playing well enough lately. It's about as easy for us to make up 5 points as it is for the nucks to gain another 5 points. Unless something happens and the team collectively pulls their heads out of the butts and starts playing the way they were last year, I'm going to say that playoffs are a dream. For now. If the Flames can win 4 in a row within a month, I'll say they have a chance.

Not straight up, but it the odds were right maybe...
So even if we surpass Vancouver, we still gotta beat one of the three Cali teams. I know Anaheim is outside looking in right now, but I gotta think they end up top three. Really it would be them taking Van's place, not us.
The million dollar question might be, how many points do we see Anaheim finishing with?
If we surpass any of the three Cali teams, maybe the Sharks? I know they're way ahead, but I still don't think they're better than the other two.
Vancouver is actually right where I thought they'd be. Just above .500. Its only cause the rest of the division is so horrible that they have a place.
I'd get a huge boost of confidence for playoffs if we could steal a win vs Chicago tomorrow. Eventually we'te going to have to steal a few games we're supposed to lose. We did last year.

We haven't seen Johnny troll LA yet. The Flames had lost 8 in a row, 20 mins away from 9 and he throws up a hat trick in the third period.
If Hartley is running the 7 game brackets again, the Flames can make it.

Pretty poor argument. I wouldn't bet $1000 that I am alive.

After watching the Lightning blow out the Ducks 5 to 0 last night, I'm starting to think it just might be possible.

If it was the old 1-8 conference playoff format, we'd have a hell of a time making it. But with the Wildcard format, hell yeah we got a chance. I firmly believe that due to the rule of 3 teams per division making it in, some of the Pacific playoff teams will have less points then some central teams who didn't make it.
The tears are going to be delicious.

Here's how the Pacific Division will finish if each team maintains their current pace.
San Jose: 102pts
Los Angeles: 98pts
Phoenix: 86pts
Vancouver: 82pts
Anaheim: 70pts
Calgary: 66pts
Edmonton: 62pts
So, right now, our division sucks. SUCKS bad. It looks like 90 points could be enough to get in. To get to 90, the Flames need to play .598 from here on out, which they have done over the last 10 games.
We also have 25 games against the Pacific. .600 from those 25 is 30 points. So 15-10-0 against our own division from here or better and we're seriously in business.

Over the past 10, with the exception of SJ, the division has been pretty bad too. If all 7 teams maintain their play over the past 10 games for the rest of the season, the Flames (who are 6-4) finish 2nd.

Throwing in the towel is nonsense! 5 back with over 60 games to play?! If we win the next 2 seven game segments then it will put us right around the same position we were last year after 35 games.
Peter Maher always said how a teams plays in the second 20 game stretch of a season is more indicative of the type of team they are. I think we are seeing the Flames round into the team people expected.
Long way to go, but I still believe.

Another pro we have to make the playoffs other than a lot of games against our division is who we have played to this point out East. Yet to see Buffalo, Toronto, Carolina, Columbus
Have played pretty much all the best teams in the East so far and Washington twice.
If we can have a good 3 game trip here we have 5 in a row at home against with 2 very tough teams but 3 winnable games. Next 8 need to be good though or we could fall to far back. 5-2-1 and we are back in it anything less the pressure to win just goes way up

People often talk about the importance of US Thanksgiving and how the teams in a playoff spot on Thanksgiving are most likely to still be in a playoff spot at the end of the season.
Here is what has happened in recent years (the number in parentheses is how many points back of the final playoff spot the team was at Thanksgiving)... 2014-15 : BOS, LAK, TOR out -- NYR (0), OTT (1), MIN (3) in
2013-14 : PHX, TOR, WAS out -- PHI (4), CBJ (5), DAL (8) in
2012-13 : N/A
2011-12 : BUF, DAL, MIN, TOR out -- NAS (0), NJD (0), OTT (1), VAN (1) in
2010-11 : ATL, COL, CBJ, STL out -- CHI (0), ANA (1), NAS (2), BUF (4) in
2009-10 : CGY, CBJ, DAL, NYR out -- PHX (0), DET (1), MTL (1), VAN (1) in One interesting thing to note: Both last season (NYR) and in 2011-12 (VAN), the team that eventually won the President's Trophy was not in a playoff spot on US Thanksgiving. Also in 2011-12, the team with the best record in the league on US Thanksgiving (MIN) missed the playoffs by 14 points.
Right now, the Flames are 5 points out of a playoff spot. Calgary, Vancouver, and Arizona each play one more game before US Thanksgiving. Depending on what happens, the Flames could be anywhere from 3 to 7 points out of a playoff spot by Thursday.

It's pretty disgusting that if we win tonight we are only three points out of a playoff spot. The pacific really is beyond futile right now. Also, it's right there for the taking, and I'm fairly optimistic that we can outpace every single team in our division except maybe LA for the rest of the season.

After another loss at the Honda Center it increasingly feels like the Flames goose is cooked by American Thanksgiving this year.
Not so much because the point deficit is insurmountable, but more because it just doesn't feel like this team is anywhere close to getting its act together.
There is no consistency anywhere...the crease is abysmal, other than Brodie, the d-core have lost their mojo and too many of our top forwards are not consistently producing. And worst of all, no one seems really ticked off about it.
