I don't have an opinion on Harper one way or the other, but feel strongly that this sort of thing should be done posthumously.

They should name the first legal recreational marijuana dispensary after him.

As I mentioned before, and many feel the same way, it's WAYYYY too early to do this now, though I imagine the petition was just started by ultra/neo cons upset about the loss and carries little clout or interest or 'officialness' to make up a word.
That said, even though I'm not a fan of Harper, I could understand why people might want to do this in 25 years or so or after he dies and it wouldn't be any skin off my nose.
Lastly, I'm with Locke and others that Calgary International Airport is fine the way it is. Not everything needs to be named after someone, and pretty much everyone loves their city. There's a lot of pride in the word 'Calgary', why not just leave it at that instead of naming it to something that's going to divide people?

I think you have to give this a decade and revisit it. I'm not a fan of naming major public structures like airports after former Prime Ministers or politicians as a whole. Frankly when I go the Trudeau Airport in Montreal, I strongly have to resist the urge to urinate in a corner.
I like the American idea of creating a presidential library, i think that's a good one.
As far as Harper being vilified in a few years, that's yet to be seen.

^Totally agree. Just don't name anything after a political figure and you're good. Banting International Airport? Bondar Airport? Fine, no one has a problem with that.

How many more of these "Name a sewage plant after him posts" do we need? It's not like they're getting progressively funnier.

All I see is a bunch of partisan whining both ways. Like him or not he was Canada's prime minister for almost 10 years. It's not a matter of if but when things are named after him. That's how things go...

If anything we should officially name it after Fred Mccall, which was the origainal name for the airport anyhow and who is a much more deserving namesake. While we're at it they should rename Edmonton's too, bot after aviation pioneers or heros who have connections to the area:
Calgary (Fred) Mccall International Airport
Edmonton Wop May International Airport

Clever, fitting and well thought out. I would support a Fred McCall airport idea.

Yeah, I was looking at his bio and he'd be fitting, Even Willie McKnight would have been fitting but we named a road after him instead.

Given that Harper has already displayed a preference, I think I would be okay with using the contributions of federal tax payers to build and name a fake lake, Lake Stephen Harper.

Way too soon, obviously, but naming something after a multi-term PM representing Calgary (would have said "from", but I guess he wasn't born here) wouldn't be a shocker. Airport terminal, hospital, high school, provincial park, whatever. It will almost certainly happen.
