Plekanec just signed for 6M. Hudler has better numbers.

Stamkos got outplayed by a few forwards on the Lightning during the playoffs and he's supposed to be the "franchise" player. Jarome Iginla carried the scoring on his back during his prime, playing with way worse linemates. That's the type of guy you trade your top prospect for if you are trying to win now. Not a guy who shows struggles during the most important time of the year.

But Plekanec is an elite two way player, and he only signed for two years.

The idea of Gaudreau on Stamkos wing is drool worthy.
That being said I don't make this deal 10 times out of 10 if i'm Brad

Even if we signed Hudler for $5M long term I think that would be a mistake for a to be 32 year old forward.

I love Sam Bennett, but come on, it's Steven Stamkos! I'd do that in a heartbeat.
That said, I highly doubt it would happen.

This is different than the team that was imploding in 09/10 when the organization made some horrible knee-jerk trades. This team is young and still rebuilding. Stamkos would be amazing but not at $10+M a years be giving up Bennett++
I do hope they add a top 6 forward hopefully for one of our Dmen (Russell/Wideman)
If Hudler wants $7M and term he can look for that elsewhere

Stamkos isn't the player he was before his leg injury. This would be a bad trade even if Bennett's upside is a Ryan Kesler because of Stamkos' eventual cap hit vs production. And I think Bennett has some real #1C upside.
NO to panic trades. Flames fans can live with a bad season if it means a high draft pick. We don't want to be the Leafs 2.0

Mason Raymond for Stamkos, but it would have to happen now for it to make sense to the Lightning.

Depending on what kind of contract Stamkos would sign, I'd do the deal. Hudler is not worth 7 mil, at least not to this team. If that's what he's really looking for then I'd start to shop him to gauge interest. I'd be 100% fin with trading Russell at this point, he's a UFA soon and likely looking for a raise so if the team could get some forward help by trading him I think it would be a good move.

That would be a bad move. Sure stamkos is better now, but Sam is not asking for 10m a year and he could improve a lot. If we paid stamkos Monahan Gaudreau giordano dougie we would literally have nobody else as long as we keep jones wideman Hudler etc
That's way way too much money on one line.
Also this is one of the worst most dramatic articles I've ever read. The flames aren't broken. At all. It's 6 games in. Jesus wept.

Gotta love rumors like this only 7% into the season. Bennett for Stamkos ain't happening. Not with the salary he will command, both Johnny and Sean's upcoming raises, and the fact that would it would be a knee jerk reaction to a situation only 6 games into the season. It would go against everything Treliving has preached since day 1 of his first day: patience and not wavering from the plan.
And as for Hudler, if that is true then he's gone by the deadline. I hope he gets 7mil and long term, but not from us. I love Huds and all he's done. But let him handcuff another team with that contract.

The Flames have a disappointed fan-base right now, and are starved for a win. Seems like any possible options should be considered by BT. I also wonder if there's extra Ownership pressure to make a deal at this point. After all, if you're trying to push for funding for a fancy new rink in the middle of an economic downturn, it helps to have a team that isn't a basement-dwelling embarrassment.
