At this time of the year most teams want to trade $ for $. Getting a pick or prospect for a d-man would be tough to get unless they took a salary dump contract back.
I don't mind if Flames trade a Russel or Wideman when Brodie comes back, but it has to be for a legit 2nd line player. Flames don't need another 3rd/4th liner. A legit starting goalie would be nice also. That said it would have to be a couple of trades because flames would have to get rid of 2 goalies. It's going to be tough enough to get a team to take one of Hiller or Ramo as is.

With the rumors of an expansion and more decisions on that being made in December I doubt we see much trade action between now and then, as I'm going to assume during said expansion we would end up losing players for free? Can't say I remember how that worked as I don't think I was around during the last "new team" expansion

I was under the impression that the Flames highly valued Russel's leadership qualities. I doubt it would be him leaving. Once TJ Brodie comes back I'd bet we see Wideman moved.

Russell had a great season last year but given how that Giordano contract could come back to haunt the Flames I'm weary of signing Russell to a sizeable term. I would hope he's the guy on the trading block because IMO he's a 5/6 defenseman.

I don't think anyone wants to get rid of Wideman. But you realistically can't keep all 5 of the top D-men and pay them all what they want.

I don't know if you do want to trade him, but the topic is about the Flames moving a defenseman and if you're going to move anyone Wideman will likely net the best return.

That's up for debate, many would argue they'd rather have Russ > Wideman who are your 4/5 guys also when the Flames are healthy they have a top 5 blue line in the league.
