He'll be busy enough working on the ranch. It's not like he has to find a mediocre big boy job now. Great fallback to have and especially with how passionate he is about it.

Best of luck to Glencross and his family!

It's definitely pretty silly how things have transpired. Instead of having 700 guys pretty happy, they have 40-60 guys ecstatic, and the rest fighting for table scraps.

You'd think the middling guys would band together a little bit. They should form a union!

This is tough news.

This is a guy who should be contributing to an NHL roster this year.

Hope it works out well for him in retirement.

As someone who is Glencross' age I would kill for $14.5 mil in career earnings by now. Regardless of how fast his stock dropped this isn't exactly a raw deal for him.

Enjoy the ranch. Look forward to seeing you at the chucks!

No it's not crap unless you played in the old days.

It's better than what many of us ever have a realistic chance of ever receiving.

From the last CBA:
Under the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, players will earn as much as $255,000 annually after age 62. If needed, players can start drawing on the pension at age 45.

I'm surprised he didn't try the Swiss Dream for a year or two. He's easily still good enough to earn top tier money and dominate the Euro leagues

I wish him the best for the future. I thought (hoped) he'd find another team.

I'm not buying that he's a victim of the economics of the NHL right now. Sure, a GM could pay a young guy an ELC contract to perhaps do the same thing that Glencross would, but what is stopping a GM from paying Glencross 1 million or less? I highly doubt he told his agent $4million per or nothing. What's more, a GM doesn't need to worry about a 32 year old player's development and progression; he can simply be used to plug holes in a roster. He can easily be scratched if needed.

What I think though is that he isn't good enough. Even at a million or less, all 29 GMs felt they could have a guy on an ELC do a better job than Glencross. It wasn't a matter of money IMO.

Crazy,

I honestly believe if he had asked the Flames for $3M x 3 a year ago they would have eventually reached a deal. If this guy had a better Agent he may have nearly doubled his career earning instead of retiring 3 or 4 years early.

I doubt this is the last Calgary hears of Glenny. I expect him to me a great community member for years to come.

You could also say that as a middling player Curtis may have been forced to retire 2 years ago if he didn't sign a 4 year deal with a no trade (as soon as his long term deal was done his career was over).

Good luck Curtis. I would love to retire as a multi-millionaire on a piece of land somewhere.

At some point, Agents end up doing what their client wants them to do.
