Bollig fight seems to change the momentum in all the wrong ways. Killed any crowd energy because it was a boring wrestling match and Flames seemed a play behind from there on out

Well, thanks to the emotional toughening up that the 2009-2013 Flames did to me, I'm already far less upset than I was 10 minutes ago.

Frolik with hardest working Flame. "Ramo also gets consideration" for the award tonight.

Kulak I thought was great tonight. Still doesn't seem confident enough to offensively pinch 100% but he'll get there. He's a gamer for sure.

Can't say much about the rest of the team though. Only game 1 I'm not too worried.

If they're the Flames from last year they'll bounce back 20x better

Consider yourself lucky if you missed it as I'm trying to think back to last year to when this team laid an egg like that as saying any Flame in general was good IMO is being generous. I think the truth is that a small handful of Flames including Ferland weren't terrible is probably the most accurate. Ramo wasn't terrible but it's kind of a typical game for him as he's either making great saves or letting in stoppable shots. It's why IMO he can't be the starter for this team if they strive to make the playoffs.

Ouch. So much for Giordano's return making this team a juggernaut.

Lots of work to do. Have to turn this thing around in a hurry.

Ramo wasn't great, but the Canucks probably had 9 or 10 glorious scoring chances compared to maybe 2 for Calgary. There is no question which team deserved to win that one - Calgary was disjointed offensively and defensively.

Ferland looked very comfortable. Looking forward to seeing him against teams other than the Canucks. He's so versatile in terms of what he can contribute.

Frolik and Jooris were pretty good. Johnny had a poor game by his standards, but nothing was working offensively for Calgary. Too much cute stuff.

Ugly all the way around tonight.

The Canucks seemed to dictate the game, which is so sad. Hate starting the season at home.

Saturday should be much better. Hopefully.

Flames lose to the Canucks the third consecutive home opener. No big deal. That said, that was not a good third period by the Flames. They really looked like they mailed it in.

I think people are putting way too much stock in that fight. If this team is that fragile that a nothing fight early in the game can throw them off for 2.5 periods the Flames have much bigger issues than we imagined.

Looks like the Kings off-season moves haven't helped a bit. Back to the gutter for them!

Ramo I thought was fine. Made that glorious save early in the game to keep the momentum going. Maybe one of those goals he would like back, but everyone was losing their defensive assignments and started looking like they were skating in cement again.

On a small positive note, Baertschi was a -1. I found that funny.

Ferland had a good game. Flames came out and were just dancing around the Canucks for a while. Hamilton - Giordano didn't look like such a good pair, but it is early and they will either click, or Brodie will just replace Hamilton on the top pair (though I expect Brodie to be there regardless really).

Vancouver just wanted the win more, and dominated the Flames outside of the first 10 or 15 minutes of the game. Nice to see the Flames get off to a good start, but they just stopped skating hard, their passes seemed almost always just off the mark, and the Sedins made everyone lost their d-zone coverage.

Regroup and come out harder in Vancouver and hopefully sustain it for a full 60 minutes.

I would just say it's not a smart time to fight, it did nothing for the team so why do. If anything it caused the lines to be mixed up, ferland down to the 4th Gaudreau took a shift with Bennett and Hudler, frolik then moved down. Yeah in the grand scheme of things it shouldn't have an effect on the game but even if it caused a lull for 5 minutes that can snowball into a bad half a period and then your down 2-0
