Suffice to say this criminal needs to be caught. I am a personal friend of troutman away from this site and I am well on the way to enraged.

Guy I saw was young, 22-26, very short dark hair buzz cut maybe. Slimmer build possibly, hard to tell. Headed towards MRU.

troutman has reports of card use attempts all over this general area.

The Ford was recovered - going for fingerprints.

There is a second chapter I can't talk about yet.

Glad you got it back.. Hopefully it's not one of those "wish I got the payout" situations.

I had a friend recover a civic that had obviously been used for some good old fashioned meth smokin / dope shootin' / f-shack'in and I'm pretty sure she sold the thing basically as-is at a loss to avoid ever driving it again.

Was going to quote the post of troutman's with the picture of the explorer where he said the plates didn't match.. I don't think that's a clear indication it's not your vehicle.

I had the plates from my (now HIGHLY ILLEGAL, CHAMILLIONAIRE "RIDIN DIRTY", 2PAC "EMISSIONZ AZ A RIDAH" status) 2012 VW Jetta TDI stolen in Red Deer last winter while parked overnight at a restaurant. When I reported it, I was told this is becoming more common as it allows thieves a bit of a chance to hide in plain sight by running legit plates on a stolen vehicle.

My inner Sherlock assumed this would likely be the actions of a more organized group, maybe some kind of chop shop. Case out a few similar vehicles and scoop up plates as needed over the course of a few days and you could probably transport said vehicle almost anywhere you needed. If you timed it right (assuming they stole my plates sometime after 2am), they had to figure they had 6-10 hours of safe use of that plate before it was time to switch.

Maybe someone was jjst bored though.

Awesome to hear! I can't even seem to get a phone call back from my insurance company at the moment. Definitely losing hope on the cops finding it.

I'm not sure yet how mine was recovered - it seems the vehicles are usually abandoned and noticed by citizens.

Good luck, chances are it will be found soon.

Hopefully not like my friend in Penticton that had a truck stolen:

Can't wait for the rest of the story. There is something going on if they are getting fingerprints.

6 years ago, I had the IS350 swiped (left running at Mac's). It's got a wierd keyless system that lets you drive away without the fob, but you can't turn the car back on if you ever turn it off. Got the car back clean and intact. There were some very obvious greasy fingerprints near the start button. When I pointed this out at the impound lot, they laughed and said that nobody takes fingerprints like in the TV shows.

Licence plate different, but that could have been changed.

Hope my Ford was not involved.

There has been a thrilling development to the second part of the story. I should be able to talk about it soon. Very good news.

It is a doozy of a tale.
