I think in general the American version has "dumbed things down" in recent series. Probably because they now cast shows with all internet celebrities and blind date nonsense. I've watched both versions since the beginning, and I am finding myself drifting away from the original and surprisingly enjoying the Canadian version (something I didn't expect when season one didn't go international at all).
