Hickey showed nice speed when he pinched in. Too bad they couldn't get the puck to him.

He also hustled hard to get back when he got trapped.

Apparently Konecny started it. said something the Russians didn't like. Konecny's comment was directed at the guy who laid out McCann.

Maybe having Hickey play in Red Deer next season will help earn him some more respect by the World Junior coaches.

Decreased ice time may not be a bad thing in a showcase scenario? Perhaps they've seen enough positives to warrant less ice time to see what the others have. Of course it could be the opposite but he's a Flames prospect so that doesn't even cross my mind lol

Keep in mind this is a development camp. Emphasis on development. As well, even offensive players depended heavily upon for more defensive roles. This, I think, is an endorsement by Hockey Canada that they trust Hockey. He played plenty of PK and last minute shifts. Recall Shea Theodore ended up playing a shutdown role last WJCs.

They probably already know what Hickey can do (don't need to play him as much )and want to see what the others can bring

Who cares? Let him do what's best for his development. Screw trying to open the eyes of a meathead coach.

I thought Hickey looked really solid last night. I can't say the same thing about some of the other defensemen. If they don't consider him among the best two or three from that game, then I don't know what to say.

But yeah, shame he wasn't given any PP time.

Our kids need to be better in the handshake line. I remember a few years ago one of our kids elbowed a Finnish player in the head on the way to the handshake. I think it was Boone Jenner, but not positive on that. Apparently these summer friendlies bring out the worst in some kids

Dave Lowry is hardly a meathead. Hickey was already being talked about as a lock for this team months ago - which is no coincidence after watching him last night.

He played a 2-1 perfectly and allowed his goalie to take the shot. He also had a deft little moment where a Russian forward tried to walk out front and he cut off the only passing option.

Hickey wasn't noticeable if you weren't watching him, but if you did, you saw the most polished blue liner Canada iced. I missed the first ten minutes of the game, but aside from his rush at the end (where a forward should have covered him) he didn't make a remotely questionable decision with the puck. His passes are crisp, his skating was fluid and powerful, and his awareness looks to be pro level.

This is our Hjalmarsson.

Agreed. Plus if you're Hickey.
a) Continue your college education, surrounded by college girls and independent lifestyle, play 40 games a season against guys in their 20s.
b) Go live with a billet family in Red Deer. Leave your education and peers behind. Ride the bus around the prairies from September to May playing with and against teenagers. But hey, Dave ****in Lowry will give you a pat on the back.
