Good stuff Howie.

A few years ago I was gifted with a couple boxes of full editions of Calgary newspapers from the early 80's through to 1989 on key Flames dates in history, from a huge Lanny fan. Paper from his first game, the 1986 win, the 1989 win etc.

Just went down and took a look at a few more.
Included is the Edmonton Sun from the day after Game 7 1986...some choice stuff in there including a guest article from Kevin Lowe!

More then willing to scan some of the relevant pages from the collection in at some point over the summer.

Other notes...just for fun, the Sun should put the Sunshine Girl on Pg 3 to see the SJW outrage in this day and age. Other things that struck me was the classified section being so large (outside of the "Bargain Finder" how else did people know you had a Technics Turntable or 1979 Nova for sale?) and classifieds for house sales, noting the 13% mortgages etc. As well, the full pages of TSE and NYSE closing quotes, bring backs memories as well.

I just read the whole Skalbania article. The man was a visionary. I wish I could quote exerts from that interview. Things he asked for happenned, things he predicted came true. Honestly wish (despite his flaws) that he had retained a 5% stake just to SE how things evolved.

In honesty, I met him 2 years ago on a flight. Always had negative connotations about him, but after reading that article I wish I had spent more time learning from him.

It's buried somewhere now in a box but I saved a front page from an early 80's Calgary Sun that had "Lanny 5 - Sabres 0"

Skalbania was a con and screwed a lot of people over the years. I think that's all you need to learn.

Yes. I know that part of the history.

But did you read his interview?

Arenas, revenue sharing, free agency, television contracts.... Much more as well. The man seemingly knew the future.

He obviously over extended himself and did some dirty things to try to recover.

But in reality, if he had some rich people believing in him and some lasting power, he might have been a multibillionaire. Almost everything he said has come true overtime. He just never had the cash to wait out his vision.

LOL, that's crazy.

The Corral, was newer then, than the Saddledome is now, when that article was written.
