IMO, Oduya is not as great, defensively as he might appear to someone that doesn't watch every Blackhawk game. He is a nice skater, sure, but, very weak on the wall, and inclined to cough it up vs. a determined forecheck...his perceived value, IMO, was more due to him being paired with a very solid SAH D-Man, Hjalmarsson. Moreover, Oduya seemed to wear down in the 2nd half of the season, passed, and was able to recover for the playoffs due to having been shelved due to a late season injury. At 35, I am not sure that I would value him at $3.75million over 2 more years.

As someone earlier posted, this works out to Sharp, Johns, and JO for Daley and Garbutt...but, this omits the biggest piece of the deal, from Chicago's standpoint...it should be Sharp, Johns, and JO for Daley, Garbutt, and $4million cap space

Great contract. Would have loved for Treliving to sign him for that.

Not doubting you here, but Oduya is 33 not 35.

I have always been an Oduya fan and think it is a pretty good signing. He's nothing great but far from terrible. A solid mid pairing defensemen and that's pretty much what he signed for. Would have no issue if he signed this deal in Calgary.

Interesting moves by Dallas, to net Sharp and Oduya, plus a good prospect for Daley and Garbut.

The one thing Dallas doesn't have though is a Hjalmarsson type to pair with Oduya on the second pair like Chicago did. Still they have a dangerous forward group, and Oduya might give them a different element on the back end that they need.

Oduya is an okay #4, but playing beside Hjalmarsson made him look much better then he is IMO.

Oops...my bad...I had added 2 years to both Daley and Oduya in my mind...my point is that the 'Hawks get a similar D-man who is 2 years younger

Quality defenseman. The Stars get better. The Stars are just a few pieces on D away from being truly frightening.
