Hamilton, Shore, Bennett, Brodie continuing his rise to stardom. What black magic the Hudler-Monahan-Gaudreau line can come up with next year, Ortio putting his foot down on a roster spot.
Billy Arnold making a push for Stajans job. Wotherspoon making a push for someones job.
Phase 1 went exceedingly well for this rebuild. Phase 2 is key and Bennett leads the next pack of hungry talents.
Bennett and Ortio are key for a huge push next year like Gaudreau, Monny and Brodie provided.

It's funny this year to think we have a very strong chance at being a playoff team again, and will have continued growth from within the organization. I'm even more pumped to see Hamilton mesh with this team and have some key holes on the team filled. I'm really excited for this year's training camp as I think we will have a lot of heated debates about who should stay and go for the opening night roster. Then I'll be even more excited to realize the opening night roster means nothing over the course of the season and go back and laugh at some of the frightened reactionary posts about who didn't make the team.

So true... but isn't it fun overreacting to such things as opening night rosters and exhibition games, not to mention development camps? I'm looking at you, Oilers fans and your 5 goal man!

I'm excited to see Hamilton and the rest of the group but to see who takes that #6 spot. Will England stay or be bumped down to 7? Will management make a deal to make room for a prospect who proves they're good enough to play full time in the NHL.
Monahan. He played awesome last year and I want to see if he's going to improve even more. I'm excited to see if he improves even more and starts to look more like an elite centre.
Bennett. I want to see this kid play, I mean more than a few games. I want to see this kid get used to playing then hit his stride to see if he gets even better and if they'll play him at centre or on the wing.
Johnny Hockey. This kid has non Flame fans excited for Flames hockey. He was amazing last year and he seems like the kind of player that's going to learn and get better every year. I want to see if last year was just a other teams not focusing on him enough or him just being that good and to see if he can kick it up a notch and improve.
Poirier and the other prospects. Who's going to make the team out of all the prospects? Are they as good as we think or have we been over rating them? I want to see if any of our current roster players get bumped off the team because of some prospects (I'd mention names of players I think might be forced out but that would change the topic too much).
I'm just excited to see this team play. The roster is going to mostly the same as last year but it's also going to be so much different. There were a lot of younger guys on the team and they're going to be back but are the going to improve or regress or play the same? I'm just pumped about this coming year.

Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Stajan - Jones
Bouma - Colborne - Jooris/Byron
Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Hamilton
Engelland - Wideman
Ramo / Hiller / Ortio

I want to see that never quit attitude and the boys put down their best every night.
I want to see play offs.
I want to see a team respected by the rest of the league.
I want to be entertained.

Why do you think they should put Bennett on the wing? I've seen that suggestion many times on CP, but I disagree with it. Monahan jumped into the C position out of the gate, and so can Bennett (and should).

Flames can't be excited about this - having to travel an additional 10,000 air miles this year!

I hope Calgary does not have a season like Colorado did, reverting back into a top 5 to 10 draft position. Being in the western conference, it is like rolling dice.

I'm really excited. I think we are the most improved team over the summer and think we'll have a great year!
I am INTERESTED to see what Ferland brings. It'll be impossible to bring that same intensity to an 82-game schedule, so I'm curious to see how he fairs. I think he'll do well.

I know you didn't ask me, but my answer:
Monahan walked onto a non-playoff team that could live with mistakes and a slow learning curve.
Bennett (might) walk on to a Playoff team with one of the best D in the league, and 4 NHL Calibre centers.

If Bennett makes the team it's as an NHL caliber center, I would rather him start he career playing a comfortable position.
Backlund as the 3rd center and Stajan as the 4th, move Colborne to the wing.

I'm looking forward to watching Hamilton and where he fits in on our defence. Ashamed to say I didn't know much about him until the trade.
Hoping Ferland can carry on his play from the playoffs. I don't see him sacrificing his body every game but he should be a force out there and score some too.
The goalie situation is going to be interesting and Ortio will get the chance to grab a spot. I'd love to see him take control of the starting position.
I'm not expecting a lot from Bennett. That doesn't mean he won't excel, it's just that it will be fine if he shows some steady progress. I hope he starts at centre as it's the proper way to groom him. He did play mostly centre the last two playoff games.
Finally I think we are in position to contend and make some noise in the playoffs. I don't think it will happen but if we regress as Colorado did, it should be only a one year thing.

If Bennett isn't one of the top 4 centers on this team, but one of the top 9 forwards.... Then what?
I'm not sure the answer. If Bennett goes back to Junior does his ELC keep rolling?
